IOR 1.5-8x FFP Trident - first thoughts

I just received my new FFP IOR in the mail today - and my first impressions are pretty positive. I thought I was going to buy a Leupold MK6 1-6 or USO 1-8, but after reading about the new FFP IOR and seeing the reticle I was smitten.

simply put the IOR reticle is the best I've seen in my opinion in both minimum and maximum magnification. the 1.5x isn't wonderful, but I'm not a door kicker by trade, so CQB for me will only happen (knock wood) in a training class or friendly competition.

the scope feels solid, and the knobs (oversized elevation) have great feel, but the "cattail" on the power lever is too small. I expect that it will hold zero just fine. the glass is great - I'll compare it to my Nightforce BR tomorrow.

I've got it mounted in a 20 MOA ADM mount on my newish .308 AR10. I'll add some pics soon and do a quick range report - if weather permits I'll hit the range from 10 to 400+ m tomorrow.

about $1650 with an 35mm ADM mount & caps shipped - I'd have to look at my check card statement for an exact total, but $1650 is pretty close.

first trip the range today. the scope functioned perfectly but I've got a problem with the mount. I purchased an ADM Recon with 20 MOA rail - that 20 MOA makes "topping out" the scope impossible. I was making groups off of a bunch about 15" high - that is with all of the elevation dialed out.

accuracy was +/- 2 MOA @ 100 yards with factory 150 gr fmj Remington ammo. I've already inquired about swapping the mount for one that doesn't shift the scope so far forwards and doesn't have 20 MOA built in.

I then swapped the scope to my S&W 15/22 for some 5 to 30 meter shooting. in my unscientific testing my shooting was about as quick as irons or my Leupold CQB. with my astigmatism red dots just don't work - all I see is a red cloud where the dot should be (I've owned 2 Aimpoints that I've sold)

I'll post some pics tomorrow - I can't find the right USB cable for my camera, and the pics taken with my iphone/ipad look really bad.

According to IOR, this scope features their "Super Bright" illumination. Does the illuminated circle-dot show up well in bright daylight? Please post pics of the illuminated circle-dot at 1x if you have the opportunity.

    Thanks in advance!

I don't know that I'd call the circle dot day-light bright. It's as bright as any ffp scope I've used, but it certainly isn't as bright as an Aimpoint.

    overdue pics:

I've tried and failed to take pics of the reticle that aren't blurry as heck. if anyone can point to a quick how-to regarding capturing reticle images, I'll post some of those too.

Change your camera's mode to use 1 center focus point and attempt to place it directly on a part of the reticle.

    Good luck!
