I had one for about a year and a half or 2 years. First let me say I'm hard on my carbine, I smash it into corners and door frames, I smash into shit with is strapped to my chest, I drop it in mudd and on hard surfaces, ect...

That said I got rid on the vortex when it broke, I was happy with its performance up to that point and I was even able to sell it broken and get some of my money back (after talking with the company and being assured the warranty would go with it, which it did and the new owner had no problems getting it straightened out)
I used the factory mount the whole time, my biggest complaint (other than that or broke) was the knob/screw being so large, easily fixable...I imagine your gonna ask how it broke- the switch literally broke apart, I'm sure it suffered some sort of direct impact but I don't remember exactly what happened. Another con- the large dot, I believe 7 or 8 MOA, that has a lot to do with personal preference. Oh and another personal preference of mine-throw the 2x screw in away, useless and way to hard to deploy.

I missed the last line where you state how you use it, having read that I absolutely advise you to replace it with something stronger and more robust. I'm pretty confident it won't hold up for you and I honestly believe you will suffer a failure very similar to mine (as the buttons are one of the weakest points)

Yeah, I think your experiences are issues I was concerned with. Thank for the information.

What did you go to for the new optic? Or did you stay iron?

It's been about 2 years since I had the vortex and I used irons only for awhile but I have just recently purchased an EOTech and could not be happier.

    It's a 4MOA dot.

And lets be realistic here guys. Its f-ing $140 red dot. If you want aimpoint performance, well buy a aimpoint. For range use and general service its fine.

Of course. There is no questioning aimpoint vs vortex. I started with that statement. With all of the good reviews though...I thought perhaps about using one. I have decided Aimpoint is the way to go.

Any Vortex Strikefire results from long use?

I picked up a Strikefire about 2 years ago. Since then its been on 2 AR's and a 12 gauge. The only issue I had with it was a significant zero shift after my rifle fell hard on a concrete floor. It's seen 3500ish rounds of 5.56 and maybe 100 or so 12ga slugs with no other issues.

I will say this, would it be my choice for a "war weapon ",maybe not. But if the world fell apart using that optic would be the last thing on my mind.

Just adding to this thread for others looking for experience with the Strike fire. My SF failed today after being used 20 times or so. I bought it new less than a year ago. Its in an Aimpoint Pro mount on a M&P 15/22 that been sitting in my vault for quite a while due to ammo scarcity. The problem is when I powered on the switch, it pushed inside the housing and remained stuck inside and now unusable. Oh well, time to give Vortex an email. I did like this sight for 22lr while it was operating correct. My 15/22 will now be getting an Aimpoint.

I have had a Strikefire for over 3 years now...maybe 4. I did have a loss of zero issue with it when I first got it, but I figured out it was due to the provided mount. After I mounted it on a LT150, it became a non issue. Now I have a comp m3 mounted on the AR, and the stikefire has moved to the AK on an MI 30mm AK mount...no issues to report.
