BUIS height in conjunction with reflex sight

Hey all, with the plethora of BUIS out there, I am looking for a combo that works height wise. Im looking to put an Aimpoint Micro-T1 or EOTech 512 on my M4 clone. Will the following BUIS co-witness, or not?

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...BA45S86E9010TW Front Sight

    I appreciate any feedback.

That's an interesting combo of sights you picked out there. You'll have to get the right riser for the Aimpoint T1 you put on your rifle, either the medium for lower 1/3 cowitness or the high for absolute cowitness. The EoTech will have an absolute cowitness.

Here's a couple threads found by searching for cowitness:

FYI this would get better attention in the Optics and Mounts subforum.

Just a small fix.... The high mount, like a LaRue 660 tall would give you a lower 1/3rd cowitness while the medium height mount gives an absolute cowitness.

Right about the EoTech. Doesn't the EXPS-3 with the integrated QD mount give a 1/3rd cowitness. I'm not an EoTech fan, but I do like the EXPS-3.

OP, I would not do that combination. I'd ditch the Magpul front for something like a troy or KAC if you want folding or the Daniel Defense if you want fixed. I use MaTech and KAC rear sights. Keep in mind that they only offer the small aperture unlike the Troy, for example.

Pretty much all M4 BUIS will work fine together unless they're HK models or slightly lower, like one or two offer that one calls the micro. Keep in mind that a KAC micro is the same height as their standard 200-600 and pretty much all other BUIS available.

What determines cowitness is the mount as RIGPIG mentioned. An Aimpoint T1 with a tall mount is a very popular choice giving you a lower 1/3rd cowitness. An Aimpoint PRO comes with a medium height mount giving you an absolute cowitness. Many others like the M3 in a LaRue mount has the option of a riser to change the absolute cowitness to a lower 1/3rd.

Another thing to remember if you're new to red dots.... A cowitness is good for zeroing or confirming zero on the fly. It is NOT the way you should be shooting regularly. Though extremely common, it's not a benefit in any way. Some claim it's a benefit when taking precise shots but that's just not the case. Others have the habit of centering the dot precisely in their optic, often subconsciously, but again that just slows you down. Only if I'm taking a precise shot at distance or shooting for groups on the rare occassion, then I'll keep the dot in the same place. Though they say parallax free, there is still some shift.

I can't tell you the number of people I see using optics wrong, most of the time they just aren't aware they're doing it.

While I prefer KAC BUIS, I'd recommend looking at the Troy. Not any of their special ones, just the standard Battlesight. Magpuls are fine, but they just don't give me enough confidence to use them on my rifles. The MaTech is ok, but if you raise and lower them a lot, there's a chance you'll wear down the nub that keeps it down and it'll pop up on its own. I'm not even sure how it happened, but one of mine just fell off of my rifle with a broken mount. I use a Battle Arms Development mount, but this was the side attached to the sight itself.

Proven combat techniques may not be flashy and may require a bit more physical effort on the part of the shooter. Further, they may not win competition matches, but they will help ensure your survival in a shooting or gunfight on the street. ~ Paul Howe

Thanks guys. Im a big believer in that rear sight, having carried one for years now in various parts of the sandbox. Im iffy on a front sight and would love to hear your recommendations.

    And thanks for the links!

DD Fixed Front sight. It's for a reflex optic anyway, those are cheap and solid.
