I have a bull barreled Savage in stainless and a CZ 452, both in .17HMR. They are both great little rifles but the CZ is more of a walk around rifle and the Savage for off the bench. Pretty sure it's me, but I have never been able to get the Savage to shoot impressively though my friend's dad has a regular model that shoots lights out.

I like the CZ rifles and the .22 and .17HMR shoot great in my experience. It seems with rimfire rifles, that it's all about the ammo.

So this got me to thinking and so I trotted by my loyal gun store today to see what was in stock in .17HMR.

They did have a Ruger 77/17 (in ugly ass synthetic stock) for about $400.

They also had a Savage 93R17 for $200. The unique thing about it was that it did NOT have the accu-trigger, just a standard regular trigger and so I got a little excited and told him to put it aside on a trade for my marlin and let me check.

    I have a Marlin 917V, my buddy has a Savage 93R17.

They both shoot under an inch at a 100 yards, but the Savage has a nicer trigger.

When I was researching my purchase, I eliminated Ruger from the list because the reviews that I read showed less accuracy than the Marlin & Savage, at double the cost. The Ruger was nice looking, and it had a smooth action, but I didn't want to spend that much money.

I got my Marlin and a Mueller scope for less than the cost of the Ruger, sans scope.

    Savage 93

I have the older model 93 without the accutrigger. This little rifle rocks!! It prefers the Hornady v-max rounds coming in at just under .5 MOA @ 110yds but the rifle shoots alot better than I do!

The only thing I don't like is the un-available bigger mags. A ten shot mag would make alot more fun!!

I "owned" a Savage .17 HMR for 3 years, and it was by far the most accurate rifle I have seen inside 100 yards. My buddy and I used to make one ragged hole all day long with it at 100 yards. No clue about the Marlin, but if was to venture into a .17 cal again it would be a Savage.
