    lightweight budget 11.5" sbr

i have been thinking about building a pencil barrel 11.5" SBR. this will be a budget build and my first SBR so im gonna keep things simple and try to keep costs as low as possible. the only fancy parts i plan on having will be a geissele SSA and H-1, i dont even think im gonna free float the handguard. i might want to add a supressor years down the road when i can afford it but will there be any problem with the pencil barrel? i have read about large POI shifts with a 16" pencil barrel but nothing about a shorter one. since its shorter it should be sturdier, do you think i will run into any problems?

A pencil barrel shouldn't be bad for a suppressor. But I personally prefer a thicker barrel. I'd look for a Colt 6933, or Centurion Arms 11.5''.

I don't notice a big POI shift in my DD 16" LW and recently bought a DD 11.5" LW barrel. DD is discontinuing the 11.5 LW but it can still be had in a government profile which may be better for the suppressor and i think the weight difference is minimal. Maybe someone more knowledgable will be along to confirm.

    Do it!

Choosing the Bravco Co 11.5 LW barrel was the best possible rendition for my opinion regarding reliable and precise SBR.

There are numerous threads, but please note this barrel handles the can without any major issues.

Please note my SBR is the light weight pencil you note...

I guess most of us aren't specific enough in our postings at a given moment in time I hope this helps you a little.

My droop when shooting with the can amounts to about 2 MOA.

The drop on my 6933 using a friend's can was about 2 MOA as well. I forget the maker of his can but, it was damn heavy.

What profile does Centurion use for their barrels? Is it thicker than the LW BCM barrels?

I think a BCM 11.5 with LW bbl with shaved FSB and Vtac TRX extreme Alpha 11" rail would be sweet.

A buddy has a BCM upper with BFH bbl and Larue rail that feels great.
