I do have my Washington permit, but as we're now residents of Utah, it's no longer valid. I have taken the Utah CCW class, just need to scrape together the money and send everything in (had a few unexpected expenses this winter which put a few things on hold).

I appreciate all the suggestions and I'm taking notes. I do take a knife and cell phone and if I head down there after dark, a Surefire X300.

One thing I'm concerned with is that by the time someone throws back the shower curtain, they are now between me and the backpack hanging on the hook to stay dry

I keep my carry pistol on top of the toilet when showering. It's as close as I can keep it without it getting wet yet still within reach. But that doesnt work in a bathroom like the OP has described. When Im showering in a public bathroom, there is usually a bench within the stall. That bench holds my "shower bag" which holds my carry pistol. That bench is in a spot that usually will get wet, so a waterproof bag is a good idea. You don't have to get all fancy with this though, last time I recall using a plastic shopping bag from bass pro. Also, as stated above, someone could get between you and your pistol/rifle. So I also wear a sheathed knife on a makeshift paracord necklace. Anyone attacking you in the shower would most likely be surprised to see your naked ass turn around with a knife in hand, and that may buy you a couple seconds to get to your gun. No doubt though, the shower is a vulnerable place to be when facing a threat. Im curious what others here do when showering in a public/semi public bathroom.

I would think more of a Smith 642 in a non shrink wrapped bag. Punch through plastic when needed to press trigger. Otherwise left in bag. No worries of ejection issues and with shrouded hammer it should fire in the bag. Though I have not tried it....

IMO moving an apartments worth of stuff(1 U-Haul's worth unless it's a massive apartment) every 2-3 years would be better then all the issues that come with living out of an RV. Especially if you've already found the common areas where you and your wife will be showering are high risk areas.

To answer your question though I would simply take my gun, probably my glock 17 with tlr1, into the shower with me. I would take my belt and holster with me so I could sling it over the shower head while I was showering. Yes everything will get wet, but I'd rather wipe down the gun, holster, and belt when I get back home vs. trying to unzip, or rip into a bag when somebody is pulling back the shower curtain to do me harm. With a kydex holster and belt similar to the Wilderness 5-Stitch with plastic buckle you'd be gtg. Oh and you'd have an excuse to get some of those maritime glock spring caps that all the real operators use
