I didn't really want to quote Grant from another forum. But, I was also pretty confident it was true. I don't post stuff that I'm not pretty sure about.

Sorry to say but it is in fact true, just got mine...and I don't think I am happy about it.

Is this something that is what it is or would SW provide the correct barrel as sold when the 811036 was put out to market as having said 1/8 5r barrel?

I believe there is some precedent in both the sports supplement and motor oil industries for lawsuits over products introduced, advertised and sold with high quality ingredients, and continued to be sold with unannounced switches to inferior ingredients -- though I don't think there's anything on the books compelling a manufacturer to announce such a change.

And S&W's website does warn that specs are subject to change without notification.

Your best first bet would be to simply call S&W and explain your frustration; you might get a sympathetic ear who will work to make it right for you.

If that doesn't resolve it for you, there is always the prospect of small claims court. A woman recently won a suit in small claims court against Honda for misleading advertising.

Personally, I'd just contact S&W a politely ask for help. Failing that, I'd enjoy the Sport for what it is.

It's a price-point gun; what do you expect? They will cut features in order to keep the costs down, otherwise you defeat the purpose.

yeah, I hear ya....just irritating that within a span of about 3 months, the first one I purchased with the 1/8 5r barrel @ $659 then the second, same dealer with supposedly an increase from the mfg to $769 then get it with the 1/9 non-5r barrel....

Guess I could keep my eyes peeled for someone that bought and just wanted the lower half...maybe scrounge a complete or mostly complete upper for cheap...??

Yeah, I would be a little irritated too. But, it's still a good gun for the money. It just would have been nice if they had advertised the change a little better. I know I bought the sport specifically because I wanted that barrel.

That said, I won't be a bit surprised if the new barrel shoots pretty darn well. If you keep it let us know how you do with it. Unless you are a good shot shooting off a rest you probably won't be able to tell a difference anyway.
