    1-6 Optic for LPR

I have a new KAC LPR and I'd like to get a 1-6-ish scope for it. I keep coming back to the GRSC 1-6, but that's mainly based on the internet reviews I've seen. I don't know anyone with one and they're not sold in stores.

I also like the Leupold VX6 1-6, Razor HD 1-6 and IOR 1.5-8, though the last two are a over my budget.

So, I figured I'd see what the members here think. Please vote or suggest another option for consideration. (Hopefully I can figure out how to make a poll)

I would at least take a look at the Swarovski Z6i w/ BRT Reticle.

You might try calling Sport-Optics. Those guys are really helpful and would be happy to answer all of your questions. Its really hard to make a decision on optics (And a lot of things for that matter) without comparing them in person... which unfortunately isn't always an option.

Why don't you state your budget and application?
Might make it a bit easier.

Good point... My budget is $1500 and I'll be using it for competition and possibly coyote hunting. I expect most targets to be within 300 yds.

I've thought about an acog, but the accupoint does not appeal to me, and I get lost trying to wade through the various acog models.

The SWFA 1-6x24 is definitely worth looking into, it has one of the best reticle designs for a low power variable scope that I've seen. Problem is that you may have to wait a while to get one.

I just got a US Optics 1.5-6X DFP. Without illumination and the EREK knob it'll come into your budget.

You can also get their 1.5-6X with single reticle.

I have a VX-6. It is a very nice scope. I have been pleased with it to this point. The only problem I have is there is not a good reticle for hold over references. I have the circle dot post reticle and bottom of the circle can be used but that is at 2.5 mils or 9 moa depending on the language you speak. That works out to about a 450 yard shot with my gun and load. The vortex is in your range you gave. They can be found easily for 1400.

I just bought an IOR FFP 1.5-8 and my initial impressions are very positive. I foolishly bought a ADM 20 moa mount which doesn't work for a 100 yd zero, but I'll take the blame for that - I should have listened to Scott @ Liberty....

pre-IOR purchase I looked at the scopes on your list + the Leupold Mk6, Bushnell 1-8.5, & USO 1-8.

I ruled out the VX-6 & Razor because they were SFP, which isn't something I wanted on my build. The MK6 & Bushnell were budget stretchers for me, and at 1x neither reticle was perfect for my goals. I chose the IOR for 2 main reasons. 1) I love the reticle, I think it's perfect for a 1x to whatever scope 2) at under $1500 it's significantly less expensive than the USO 1-8 (the USO DFP doesn't interest me from a complexity perspective)

All of my decisions were based on what I read here & other sites, specifically noting the review of certain folks that appear to be qualified + what I gleaned from a conversation with a couple of vendors (Liberty, Eurooptics, & SWFA)

disclamer: I'm hardly an expert, so view my post as only my opinion and not gospel. if you can play with the scopes on your list, that'd be the best way to start IMO.

I like the IOR, but the USO 1-6 DFP is also starting to grow on me. Larue has a Bushnell Elite 1.5-6 package that is interesting. But I had a Bushnell elite scope with their old firefly reticle on a 7mm deer rifle. It managed to stay together, but it didn't impress me very much and the reticle burned out after about 6 months.

I thought the GRSC was a decent value because it comes with a bobro mount for $1250. I've never spent more than about $700 on an optic before, so I want to make sure I buy the right optic.

I can probably get my hands on a mark AR and a VX6 at Cabelas. If I'm lucky they'll have one of the bushnells on hand.

Update: Cabelas by me has a 3.5x35 acog, a vx-r patrol, a couple 22x Nightforce's and an $8500 ATN digital IR scope and a counter full of vx2/3's...

Unfortunately, all of the other stores and show vendors I know of around here have maybe an eotech 512, a Burris Fastfire and cases of NCStar and Counter Sniper scopes...

Maybe I'll chew on this a bit before I send an order down range.

Just because you're necessary doesn't mean you're important.

I just got my USO 1.5-6X DFP 2 weeks ago and shot it last Sunday for the first time. I was more careful mounting this scope than others I've done previously. I used as set of scope levels, it seems to have paid off.

The 6X is REALLY nice at 100 yds. The EREK knob is the cat's a$$. I plan to get out and shoot a box test with it this Sunday and if time allows I'll do the step test as well. After that I'll try my 75 gr load (I've been using my 55 gr reloads) to see what the delta is between the 2 and set my zero stop accordingly. Maybe get some time on the 200 yd line. Then verify my loads and dope and I'm off the following weekend to some National Forest land to bang on the gong I got for Christmas. I can shoot out to 1,200 yds in the new place I learned of, but most likely won't go past 600 yds unless I can hit the 10" gong 5 of 5, then it's out to 700 and repeat.

I can give you whatever info you'd like on the USO DFP if I have the knowledge to answer.
