    Removing bullet button help

For those of you who live in the People's Republic.

I got a new CMMG lower, it has a bullet button design on it I have not seen. Yes, I searched. But the bullet button wrench does not work. It seems that the bullet button is installed first, then the mag catch was screwed in. The BB will not make the mag catch go out far enough to twist it off. So it seems kind of stuck on there.

I am going to be moving soon, to a Free state, and I want this damn thing off. Plus, I am going to be going to Nevada for a family vacation and I want to take the damn thing off, and use a standard bullet button so it would accept the wrench.

Anyone experience these or know how they can be removed?

Sorry I only have a phone to take pictures with.

You don't see slots in the nut?

I can't tell from the pic.

Also, they may have used a thread locking compound so heat will help once you figure out what tool to use.

There are no slots in the nut.

Not sure why this is so difficult... Just remove it like the standard magazine catch.

Depress the button with a ballpoint pen or correct-size rollpunch (or whatever), unthread the magazine catch from the other side. I've never used any sort of special tool to install/remove a bullet button.

Like I said when I depress the button as hard as I can the mag catch does not extend far enough so I can unthread it.

    He is missing the point.

You shouldn't have to push it in to thread the catch out from the other side.

I've never seen a bullet button that did not have either a slotted face, or an open face with slotted sides.

I've removed and installed dozens of these things, even if you could push it in far enough to unwind it from the other side, that won't do you any good if they used Loctite - the nut will simply spin in place along with the mag catch.

I'm wondering if they put the nut on backwards by accident, but fail to see how they could have screwed it down if that is the case.

I have no idea. I read on Calguns that someone had the same issue, however, he never put how he resolved it.

The only fix I read there was to drill into the mag catch so that it breaks and you can pull the BB out. You obliviously have to replace the mag catch, that is no problem I have a coupe. I was going for it, started to drill, stopped then figured I should ask on here first. The bit only scratched the catch. I think that may be my only route, though. There appears to be no nut like every other bullet button, but idk how that would work. It looks as if the BB is threaded and they just screwed in the catch like you would with a mag release.

My BCM Mod1 grip is also too small to fit onto this and my S&W lower, so today's building is going well so far :P

I just read that some manufacturers are making their bullet buttons "semi-permanent".

You already know what the solution is, it sucks having to destroy a perfectly good mag catch.

True, but well worth it to get rid of the idiotic nuisance IMHO.

The bullet button I have consists of three parts, not including the mag latch itself-

There is the pseudo button. This parts drops in the mag button recess and fits over the shank of the mag release.

There is a spring. The spring fits inside the pseudo button.

There is a small threaded piece made of brass. It threads on to the mag catch shank. It is broached for and Allen key. This is the part that must be depressed with a tool to release the mag. If it is threaded on too far, the Allen key will not get a good bite on it. The design limits how far the mag release can be pressed out the opposite side and cannot be pulled out far enough to be spun
