There is a small threaded piece made of brass. It threads on to the mag catch shank. It is broached for and Allen key. This is the part that must be depressed with a tool to release the mag. If it is threaded on too far, the Allen key will not get a good bite on it. The design limits how far the mag release can be pressed out the opposite side and cannot be pulled out far enough to be spun
Well while in the garage about to drill out the mag catch I figured to try the star key set I had. The T-30 size fit perfectly and remove the nut. This BB is a new design. I have not seen it before but is exactly how you described it.

I am ordering a standard BB. The best fix, I have heard, is to move to a Free state, though.

Now it is to call BCM and ask if I am too weak, or is their grip to small to be put on the lower, I tried to force it on its a now go.

Glad you got it sorted out, sounds like they may have recently improved the design.

The slotted nuts are easy to damage with a screwdriver or bullet button wrench.

That is the second best fix. The best fix is to throw the bums out and take back California. No more Boxer, Feinstein, Waters or other statists. I do feel for those who are caught in the Occupied Territories

I took a flat head screw driver and that was almost the exact width of the hole that you stick the "bullet tip" in order to drop a magazine.

I dremeled out the middle of the area to make it look like a snake teeth.

    Here is a picture:

I live in a (semi) free state. I had a tough time removing mine from a recent production M&P 15. I ended up pushing the catch out as far as possible and cutting the post. They used some high temp loctite to install the button. No other way to get it out

While living here in the People's Republik I find it to be a lost cause.

I used to live in California and I agree, it's a daunting task. However, it must be done. Diane Frankenstein- I mean Feinstein holds a seat in DC and has influence over national policies. We cannot afford to let that go unchallenged

I'll be removing my bullet button on the Colt LE6920CMP-B since I live in Texas. I bought the bullet button removal tool and hopefully it will be easy or will just take a star bit.

If you have the right tools, and if your BB wrench does not break if the BB is loctited (mine did not) then it is very simple.

I was caught off guard by the new design so I complicated things

After I spent almost 10 dollars on a bullet button tool to remove a BB from my new Colt LE6920 Magpul , I noticed that a flathead screwdriver could have done the same thing.

The BB tool still worked perfectly and didn't need a lot of effort to unscrew the BB from the Colt. I guess Colt made it as easy as possible for people to remove it...LOL. Oh well, lesson learned on the BB tool.

After installing the Brownells spring and mag release button, I noticed that the button sticks out a bit. I'll take a picture and post it here when I can. This is my first AR-15, so I don't know what a normal button looks like. I can't figure out a way to screw it in further though.
