Rem 700 AAC-SD setup

Got a Rem 700 AAC .308 on its way to my dealer(or will be later in the week).

Looking for some thoughts on my plan.

Pretty well set on a McRee chassis with the standard folding stock and not the AR stock. Either going to go with FDE or I have seen some pictures of the non coated ones just in bare aluminum and it looks pretty cool too, but I think FDE is the way I will go. McRee is fairly local to me and I have read nothing but good about their chassis.

As far as glass I am leaning hard to getting another Vortex Viper PST 4-16x. I put one on my dads LMT MWS and I think its a great scope for the money. The one we put on his gun is an MOA/MOA scope since he has shot MOA his whole life. I just got a Leupold VX-R patrol 1.25-4x and its a MIL/MIL scope. I dont own any other scopes except an Aimpoint. Im thinking making the full on jump to MIL/MIL might be the way to go. The other scope I am thinking on is a Leupold VX-R 4-12x50. Price is about the same as the Vortex and I assume the glass quality is similar to my VX-R patrol.

As far as base and rings go I am thinking of going with Seekins. Again, used Seekins rings on my dads MWS and I was SUPER impressed with their quality. Probably go with a 20 MOA base. What height rings should I go with? I am thinking high rings, but if I could get a little lower with the medium-high or even the medium I would prefer it. Anybody have an educated answer to ring height with this 50mm objective scope?

Will probably go with the standard Harris 6-9 bi-pod with the notched legs.

SWFA allows me to add all this stuff to my shopping cart, does that mean its in stock with them? Or should I email to make sure?

Any other dealers I should look at for the above? Liberty has the scope, but not the rings or base.

I have been very pleased with the service I have received from Triad Tactical. I bought my Badger Ordnance base and rings from them.

What are you thinking about for the trigger? Going to stay with the stock unit or buy a Timney?

I agree with you about the FDE. It gets ridiculously hot down here in the summer, I'm getting a FDE AICS 2.0 stock with some new money coming in. A black stock would burn my cheek right off.

I do have a Vortex Viper PST FFP 4-16 MIL/MIL scope that I bought upon Orkan's recommendation. I have been quite happy with it, and got it from Scott at Liberty Optics.

I would call SWFA, and ask direct. You order then they send you a back order note. But the won't ****/ charge you.

Seekins , good. Vortex good, get that timney and buy an atlas bipod from Triad tactical if you have the coin.

When I had a 700 AAC-SD, I used a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x50mm with TPS TSR Low Rings (0.925" height) and TPS 20 MOA base. I know you're using Badger, so the ring height will depend on base height but it should be in the same ballpark.

TPS parts were very nice. I got all excited to lap the rings using a Wheeler scope mounting kit, then discovered that the rings were perfectly aligned when mounted on the base.

I have a Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP mil/mil on a R700P using a Badger 20MOA base and rings. My Badger rings are the Medium (0.885"), Part Number 306-20. I believe the Badger standard (0.825") would be too low based on how mine are. I have minimum clearance but it is not touching.

Not everyone sizes their rings the same way so I can't speak to Seekins. I am pretty sure a Seekins medium is not the same height as a Badger medium, but I could be wrong.

Consider the BRM-S bipod and add the excellent KMW pod lock. The swivel feature is nice to get any cant out of the gun. The pod lock lets you tighten up the swivel and it also lets you lock it completely out.
It's worth it.

Will check out Triad and Badger stuff. Yea was contemplating a Timney, but probably will roll with stock for now since getting glass and a chassis is top on the list now and a trigger is fairly easy to change out later on.

I would love an Atlas, but I think to much cash for me right now. I can get Harris for like 90 and an Atlas is like $300 when you get a pod lock as well.

Im not planning on using Badger, planning on using Seekins, but will probably check out Badger as well.

The high rings from Seekins are .97. The medium-high are .92, the medium are .87 and the lows are .82. I think I will call SWFA and talk to them and see what they recommend.

From your post it appears Seekins and Badger are measured the same. The Seekins mediums at 0.87' are comparable to the Badger meduims at 0.885", and the Seekins lows at 0.82" are comparable to the Badger standards at 0.825".

My issue is right now if I order the wrong size I wont necessarily be able to just exchange them for a different size.

I am leaning towards the medium-high rings. I cant think .05 will be enough to notice to the eye position, but if .05 difference makes the scope fit vs. not(or be REALLY close) I would rather go with the slightly higher rings.

Mounted standoff at front lens cap looks very similar to photo posted by 8200rpm. And my setup also includes the front lens cap so they are comparable.
