    Dummy Shells

I was planning on purchasing some dummy shells, but after thinking about it I thought I could make some fairly easy. So with a little hot glue and some time I set off. They turned out well enough to practice speed reloading. However they do fit a little tight into the chamber of my 12 gauge. Here are some pictures of how to do it if anyone is interested.

So I started with a live shell, which I removed the BB's and saved. Removed the wadding and gun poweder then de-primed.

    BB's Saved.

    Deprimed husk.

Once shell was deprimed, I placed bb's back into shell for weight.

BB's into the shell to help aid in realistic weight.

Then filled remainder of the shell with hot glue and closed the end back up. A little hot glue for structural integrity. (thank you wife for the tacticool pink hot glue gun...no there was no form 4473 used here....)

Stuffed shell into barrel to get to harden to proper dimensions as best i could....(I dont have a shot shell reloader.....)

I then painted pink, but that was a bad idea cause paint came off. So now they are sporting perm blank ink altering user (me) wtf they are.

As you can see too much glue used and you get a jacked up looking shell like the one on the left.

By no means are these professional, however if your a cheap ass like me and want to practice reloading without the use of live rounds this method could work for you.

I don't like using any kind of shell for practicing anything unless at the range or other safe place. I don't care what color the shells are. If you are looking at the shells you will never learn how to efficiently load the gun. Your hands do NOT know what color they are! Practice is great but do it in a safe place. A lot of empty guns have hurt people. GH

I guess I dont understand your post and how it pertains to mine.

The use of dummy rounds to practice is common. I created dummy rounds so that live rounds would not have to be used to practice.

But I am with you, all guns are always loaded, and if you treat them as such you are fine.

Just saying that any practice with guns should be done in a safe place with or without dummy rounds. You know that already if you treat your weapon as if it is always loaded. GH

So you are saying that it's not Ok to practice at your house with dummy rounds doing reloading drills, etc...? If so, that's just idiotic, but what do I know?

I apparently know as little as you--or less.

If I practice in a room where there is no live ammo the fact that my hands can't distinguish between live and dummy rounds is irrelevant.

    But maybe I'm missing something.

I can see that common sense has left the building so I am going to stay out of this. FWIW- I think most people are smart enough to know the difference between dummy rounds and live ammunition. But, apparently you and others think you're the only "smart ones" in the room.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying.

If you live by yourself in the woods with nothing within a half a mile you are GTG. If you have family in the next room and live in a neighborhood like most of us do I think it is irresponsible to practice anything with a gun in the house. I value your input as a moderator and industry professional but please allow me to have an opinion without calling my comments idiotic. GH
