A few questions about my upcoming class

What do you guys prefer for slings? Single or double point? Brand? What's the most efficient method of mounting?

    What's your preferred mag carrier?

I'm taking my first carbine class soon and want to be prepared. Thanks

There are a bunch of good two point slings out there. I prefer that over a single point sling. I happen to use an Ares armor Huskey Amentum Slider Sling. It's a decent sling, but I think that the Blue Force Gear VCAS sling is better. I'll be buying one soon.

For mag carriers I go two ways. I have a High Speed Gear, Inc. battle belt with Taco mag pouches for my AR and pistol mags. My next class will likely be run with a more lightweight setup using kydex mag pouches from Coffman Concealment.

Ask the instructor what he recommends.

I'll second the Vickers padded sling. I have 3 of them on my various carbines and they are very simple yet effective to use.

Vickers padded sling. I mount it at the back of the rail and on the stock. This was suggested to me by Jeff Gonzales. I found that it let's the rifle hang well, doesn't interfere with my support hand, works well for weak-side shooting, and pistol transitions.

As to mag carriers, my needs are simple...a Tactical Tailor MAV with 4 pouches works great for me. Most carbine courses I've taken also require a pistol. For carbine courses I use an instructor's belt with a Blade Tech holster, two AR mag pouches toward the front and two pistol magazines behind those. And a dump pouch.

    Best sling on the market.
    Hands down.

OP, try to keep things simple.
Don't go full war belt, sub-loads, chest rig.
Stay with a simple first line.

Have ammo loaded on stripper clips.
Don't load all of your mags up, keep a couple empties.

There is a good sticky on this topic.

Simple is the plan. Other than a mag holder of some sort & my rifle, I'll be rolling Levis, t-shirt, & Vans like I do every day. I'm not one for the ninja-tac setup.

Sling - the Vickers 2 point in my opinion. Add this little device and if your sling is attached the the back of the receiver, it takes about 2 seconds to convert to a 1 point.
