    Removing FSB problem

It is a BCM, I read the many threads, I cannot get them to move. After this happened I no longer want to try:

I did not hit it really hard when it happened cause I already gave up in my head but the punch slipped and hit the barrel, now I am worried I ruined it. Damnit guys, I swear I am an idiot. Will it be damaged? If I the gun smiths in my area will not do it, or are too busy, should I try something bigger than a 16oz hammer? I just really do not trust myself with it now...as you can see why..

Not ruined. Just a character mark.

I had to use a 3lb sledge and punch to get them out one time. Actually the heavier sledge kept the punch from jumping all over like it did with the regular hammer.

Also you can pull that towel right over top of pins and barrel and put punch on towel over pin. The towel will help keep the punch from slipping a little also and protect barrel as well.

Other option is to go to harbor freight and get a press and push them out but not necessary.

PS - BCM uses taper pins so make sure you are pushing on the smaller side.

Thanks man, guess when I grabbed that towel, after that happened

It may be stupid, but do I have to worry about the LW barrel bending at all? it seems all impact is on those damn pins, though.

And yeah, I read their thread, I am pushing on the left side. I guess I will get a bigger hammer tomorrow.

Taper pins are directional, go the right way. If you're afraid to hit it, take it to a pro, or send it to me, I'll do it for free.

If the FSB and barrel are properly supported it should be fine. A FSB pin block would help but a wood block can work too. This orange block is what I'm referring to. http://www.flickr.com/photos/itstactical/6172856010/

Dings and scratches look good, don't sweat it.

Thanks, this is how I am doing it:

Receiver in Brownells action block, FSB on a block of wood, on the cement floor. I have my knee on the action block acting, like the second person- I am alone tonight- and I am hammering away..

Don't worry about the barrel bending.

A large nail set works well since it has a concave tip. Brownells sells a concave tip punch too.

I had a tough time with one of my BCM's I did 3 weeks ago. Broke two nail drivers. Was banging on 2x4's on top of concrete floor. They wouldn't budge and punch kept jumping around. Finally enlisted my wife's help to hold it steady while I hammered. Couple good whacks, and they popped right out. There were some "character" marks, but I was planning on painting the rifle anyway once I installed the rail.

When my brother gets home I will ask for his assistance. And I will give a couple good hits, if they do not budge, I do not know, I will try a bigger hammer.
