He says that the pins can be replaced but not the front sight. Can pins be replaced or are they mated with barrel and sight?

He seems very preofessional, however. Though I am not sure if their complete expertise is in AR's.

Pins can be replaced, and he is right that it wouldn't be easy to replace the front sight. ADCO might be able to do it though.

Basically, there is a tapered hole there. You can buy a new set of 2/0 taper pins from the BCM website and replace them with clean, new pins when you reinstall it. I use them to pin low profile gas blocks in the same manner.

The fsb will auto-correct. You just want to be gentle working them in because if it is slightly off and you just smash the pins in there's a chance you will gouge the reamed surfaces of the fsb and barrel. Any minor change in alignment is due to variances in pin concentricity, elastic compression and radial orientation. The pins may not be perfectly round and unless you mark them they will end up rotated from their original position.

^^The pins are replaceable, they're not mated to one assembly. Hopefully the press works to get them out. I suspect your smith will need a carbide drill bit if he ends up having to drill the pins.

Well the good news is you know they wont fall out later down the line thats for sure....lol And yes ,I think i would put in new pins since you had such a problem beating them out, I think its cheap enough for new ones.

Ok now the pins are out.

But I cannot get the sight off now. I'm starting to wonder why I even attempted this. Lol

So what's the best way to get the sight off the barrel? It has moved almost an inch and now won't budge. I do not have to remove the gas tube right? I'm being careful not to bend it, I'm trying to wiggle the sight off but it's tight.

I take the gas tube out so I can spin the fsb around the barrel. I like to slather the barrel with moly grease to help protect the finish. Try tapping it around with a rubber mallet while pulling.

Thanks. I got the sight off while keeping the gas tube on.

And it seems the barrel nut was torqued beyond my strength. After some reading, I'm trying the freezer method- it will be in for like 8 hours. if that does not work I already emailed BCM about it.

It seems that I should have someone help me in person, though I like doing things myself. I learn the hard way I guess.

Are you sure this is a factory build? BCM is generally pretty good about specs, unless you're really weak...

Yes it's from the factory. Ordered off their site.

And I wrestle and train in MMA so I'm fairly strong I think, for my small size. The thing is that a tooth of the nut gave before the nut came loose before I left to work. So now it's in the freezer as I read that helps.

I couldn't loosen the barrel nut on my bcm lw middy either. I dremeled the delta ring off.

Damn I would not know how to do that. I may just have the gunsmith finish this off. I keep having trouble everywhere.

However, when the nut comes off and I replace it, do I need some kind of grease to go on it? Or something like CLP will work? Or is anything necessary?

Thanks guys. I know I should have not dove into this head first lol
