Get the Smith and if by chance you come across the pond. Bring some FAMAs with you and we'll all just call them pinball machine parts

I lived in Germany for 10 years, and Europe became a part of me and my family in many, many ways. You're right, though -- it can be a very frustrating place to own firearms. I went through the rigorous Jagdschein process in order to gain some freedom from the restrictions in Germany as a hunter, but even then, selection is limited and firearms are costly. Extremely well made, mind you, but still expensive.

There is no reason why an M&P would not serve you very well, and it does not strike me as a second-rate choice at all. We do have access to some very high quality "boutique" brands here, that is true, but you don't really need all of these nice-to-have features in a basic working gun, and the S&W is a worthy choice.

If those are your choices I would definitely go with S&W. The immediate differences I see are what is chromed, and what is not as well as the stocks being used, triggers, and barrel twist rate. Here is a link to the comparison chart on S&W site.

For my money I would probably go with the M&P TS. I like a chrome bore/chamber which the VTAC does not appear to have, and it has a free float hand guard which the M&P model does not have.

Just my opinion. Hope it has helped.

I'm glad I chose the Smith & Wesson as my first AR platform.

For me it was the lifetime service policy that Smith offers. Can't beat it with a stick.

Not to mention I'm a fan of the brand. Never had a Smith that didn't go bang when I pulled the trigger- not even my 1994 Sigma.

I want buy an AR15 but in France there's not really choice with AR.
There's just DMPS, Bushmaster, Stag and soon S&W. I want an US AR 15, not an exotic brand like Norinco.
I think S&W is the best choice for me, even i know there so many better brand (DD, BCM, COLT, Noveske....) but there are not sale in france (US shooter are really lucky).
In fact i dont know what model choose.
I like S&W M&P TS (1/7 twist) and VTAC but there are very expensive (more 2000 €) or Rifle model.
I thank you in advance for your answers and i'm sorry for the spelling mistake.
I learned a lot by reading this forum.
    Respectfully.
Of those, Smith and Wesson all day every day. Distant second to Stag. Then Bushmaster. Then DPMS.

    But really, get the S&W

Smith and Wesson all the way. I owned a M&P TS for about a year.I loved the barrel lenght and 1/7 twist, not to mention troy rail. I'd own another one in a heart beat.

    Thx all for your answers,
S&W is the best choice and i'll buy TS model.
For the Famas, i was in french army, this is not a realy good weapon. For example when you shot in full auto more than 3 magazine the barrel is red and can burn.
    I prefer a M4.
    Thx again.

I have just a last question.
I hesitate between two models TS and VTAC, both are 4150 CMV steel for barrel but VTAC had Mid-Length Gas System.
Is any interest in having this ?
    Thx for your answers.
    Respectfully.

Good question. Generally, a mid length gas system will have a little bit softer recoil impulse and the action of the internals will be a little less violent, theoretically leading to a little less wear and tear on the parts.

Mid-length gas system is getting to be the standard for civilian shooters here in America.
Companies like BCM and DD do it right.
I wonder how big the gas port is on the S&W models are.
