    Any other questions?
So I knew the ACS-(L) would fully collapse on the 7 position A5 RE like the E-Mod but didn't think the STR did as well? If so I bought the A5SR tube for nothing.

To the op, the A5SR/RE-10 tube (available directly from Vltor) when used on an AR-15 allows you to run the A5 buffer and rifle spring and use a standard length carbine stock. The tube is still physically .75" longer than the carbine RE, like the regular A5 RE, but instead of 7 positions it has 6. This prevents you from over collapsing the stock and having the end of the buffer tube stick out past the stock (which happens if you have a stock that is open at the back, like the M4 stock). This video compares the two different A5 tubes:

Very good point and thank you for adding that for the OP.

Yeah, The STR is basically made for the A5. There is virtually no gap inside the stock between the RE and the buttpad when it is fully collapsed. I started with an EMOD (great stock), but found it put me a little too far away when using my soft armor. The STR worked perfectly for me.

I'd try and get an A5 extension tube backordered somewhere like Brownells or Midway and go to springco buy a couple of the green springs. Then go to Vltor and get all the buffers and see if you can backorder an extension tube there also you'll probably save money in the long run buy piecing it out. Especially since your planning on running a heavier buffer weight than the assembly comes with stock.

The A5 seems to be the most universal system any weapon will run with it and they offer the widest range of buffer weights I know of which is great for fine tuning.

Re: Buffer/Spring set up in your Piston System

I have an A5 buffer system that I had previously been running on a PWS MK114. The gun was used a fair amount with a suppressor attached and the PWS really needed the longer spring and extra heavy buffer with the can in place. The recoil parts combo seemed to have no ill effects on the gun and it ran well without the can too.

I have since sold the rifle but I kept the VLTOR parts and now have them on a Ruger SR556E. I haven't used the combo much yet but my initial experiences have been positive.

Slash at heavybuffers.com does make custom buffers for the A5 system as well. I believe he can make a buffer that's heavier than the H4 if anyone is looking for such a thing.

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

Tok, thanks for chiming in. I might shoot Clint (slash) an email. But he would need to be able to duplicate the buffer's interior spring and weight spacing so that the advancements regarding timing and consistency of ROF and unlocking speed aren't lost just to move to a heavier buffer.

I had him make a custom carbine buffer for me before i discovered the A5 system and it was very high quality.

In fact, my little brother uses his carbine buffer with a Springco White in his Rainer Arms lower. That white spring shoots as close to the A5 setup as any other carbine spring I've used.
