In my house we have four rifles, two 16", and two pinned 14.5" with BattleComps. I am a firm believer in the general, all around utility of the 16" barrel for 99.9 percent of uses and shooters. One can change and reconfigure a 16" barrel and its muzzle devices at will without legal repercussion in most states. Now, I happen to live with that .01 Percent shooter, all 99lbs and 5' of her and having carbines as short as we can legally have them without going SBR is important to us, for her primary and back-up use. unless you really need a shorter rifle I highly recommend that you stick with 16", it is only 1.5 inches of difference and if you fall between 5'7" and 6'6" the difference between the 1.5" of 14.5" and 16" is insignificant.

Exactly why I used a 14.5" LW barrel for a build here in NJ. If I have to pin a muzzle devise anyway, might as well make the rifler as short as possible.

Having said that, my PredatAR is a 16" with a pined muzzle device and I can't tell the difference from my 14.5" guns as far as length goes while handling the gun.

In Jersey anythings' legal, as long as you don't get caught.

I have several 16" rifles and one 14.5" with a pinned flash hider. I think the 1.5" difference is extremely noticeable. I think the 16" rifles are good if you are not sure what you want in a rifle and may want to experiment. I am pretty set on how I want a rifle so I don't see the need to change them.

That said, BCM had the lightweight BHF 14.5 in stock on the 26th and the standard 14.5 lightweight in stock yesterday. If you want a 14.5, sell your 16" on gunbroker then buy a 14.5 when it comes in stock. You will probably make good money on the 16".

Shortening a BCM 16" LIGHTWEIGHT barrel?

Yeah, as I mentioned earlier, I decided to keep the 16" LW as is. I haven't even fired the dang thing yet, but after handling it (once mated with a lower) I'm hooked. This is my first LW profile AR and I'm wondering what took me so long....

I'd still like to have a rifle as short as legally possible without SBR'ing it, so I may have to piece together an M4 clone for fun.
