Just picked up a Remington 700 SPS Tactical...

Now the question is what glass to use. I was looking at the Viper PST 6-24 FFP and we hoping to stay around the 1k mark for a scope. Is this a solid piece of glass, or should I be looking at other scopes?

That is good glass. The Viper PST FFP is about as solid as your gonna get for 1k. I prefer the Vortex over the Mk4's. Just my opinion.

That's good to hear. I was debating that or the Vortex HS 4-16x50 FFP. Both look solid I just didn't know if the brand was OK or which choice Ishould use between the two. This is my first bolt gun and first time selecting glass.

Does it matter if it's MRAD or MOA adjustments?

Doesn't really matter. I find mil/mil optics easier to work with. This is more of a personal preference. Does your mind work in tenths or quarters? Either way, make sure your reticle matches your turrets; matching reticles and turrets make things simpler. Good luck.

I too prefer mil/mil/ffp... but as was said, purely preference. My brain works with a 10 base system better than a 4 base or fractions, so it's mils for me.

Sounds good. Thanks for all the help. As this is my first bolt gun I think I am going to just toss the optic on it and a bipod then shoot as is for a while. I will consider upgrades once I know what I'm looking for. Is there a certain way to break these barrels in?

I'm going to point out what's lacking here in my opinion. It's your first bolt gun, which may or may not mean your first real scope choice. You did not state the caliber so I will assume 308 Winchester, never a bad choice. However everyone wants to shoot to 1000m, myself included but it takes a lot more than guys often realize to get there.

The issue I see with you scope choice is the power range, there are some factors you should take into account here. What about targets inside of 200m? I would opt for something more in the 4-16 range for a 308, however if you bought a 300 win mag with the possibility to push past 1000m that's enough scope. While 24x is nice I think your going to learn about mirage the hard way!

Also If you don't know the difference between the moa and mrad start yourself off right and get the mrad. Don't try to learn both you will confuse yourself and have to back peddle.
