    What paperwork stays with SBR?

I tried Googling, but I couldn't find the answer. My apologies if this has been discussed ad nauseam before.

What paperwork do you actually keep with your NFA items?

I'm assuming a copy of your Form 1/4, so that in the event a BATFE agent shows, you can show it to them....

If your NFA item is on a trust, do you keep a copy of the trust with the item as well?

I've heard of a Form 1/4 being stored in the pistol grip, and I'd planned on that, but I don't think I can shove my 14 page NFA trust in there with it.

    What do you do?

I keep a copy of my stamp in the Vltor stock tube. Rolled tightly and sealed with a vacuum seal bag.

Personally, I don't keep any paperwork with me. I do have digital photographs of my paperwork just in case, but generally don't keep physical copies of my paperwork with my NFA stuff unless I go out of state. Everything is on a trust, which my original stamps, original copy of my trust, and Form 20s are in my safety deposit box. General practice is to keep a photocopy of your stamp with the weapon. I've never had issues, even being pulled over with my suppressed SBR loaded in the front seat. The officer was curious after dealing with the reason I was stopped in the first place. He asked about what it takes to own NFA and after explaining, he sent me on my way.

Edit: there's technically no requirement (Federally) within your home state to keep your paperwork on hand. It's a tax form, not a permit.

The only people who care about your paperwork are the internet people. I keep my docs locked in a safe.

If I travel across state lines I keep my approved Form X and the permission slip from the BATFE.

Same here. I take it further and just keep scanned pictures on my phone.

Original copy stamp stays in gun safe. I keep mine in plastic sleeves in a notebook with an index.

I keep a second notebook in my truck with index and copies in sleeves. I splurge a few more cents and make color copies. Notebook is in a large ziplock bag to stay clean and dry. Notebook stays in a pocket built into the back of my truck seat. A copy of Form 1 or 4 shown to an officer may prevent an un- needed escalation of his concern.

In my opinion, SBR AR15 won't garner much interest from LEO in free states.

I shoot a lot of machine guns thus the documentation in the truck. Hearing a gun go rat-a-tat-tat will garner much interest and people think full auto are illegal. I live in a very rural county so If an officer had an issue, I would show paper then invite him to shoot with me.

When I had a few stamps, I would keep a copy in my vehicle's glove compartment, all folded neatly in one envelope. Not required, just in case.

When making a color copy, I also scan the original and email to myself. I keep them in an email folder on my Gmail account so I have an electronic copy.

    Have fun,

Exactly. There is no requirement to flash your papers like Wayne and Garth back stage at an Alice Cooper concert.

I don't carry papers with me.

I don't carry papers either. I see no point to it. I "keep them available" for inspection as the law requires, in the extraordinarily unlikely event I will ever meet any kind of ATF agent. They may have to wait a few days, but they're available.

Cool. Thanks for the responses guys, I greatly appreciate it.

I'll probably go the "safe than sorry" route and keep a copy of the stamp in one of the tubes of my STR in some sort of waterproof contraption.

I just didn't want to get to the range and have someone question it (I've read about it before) or call the ATF/LEO on me (I've read about it before, too).

I just wasn't sure (couldn't find a requirement, so I assumed none existed) of keeping a copy of the trust if I travel an hour or so away from home to go to an outdoor range.

Thanks again, I appreciate the help.
