The nearest wal-mart to me that sells guns still has the same 6 boxes of 22-250 they had in December and 1 new box of .380. Fishing equipment has been moved into half of the ammo case.

For what its worth I did however see a Bushy at pre panic price in the case which I haven't seen in months.

I.e. if Walmart sold 223 for $1/rd, people with lots of money can just go in and wipe out their stock anyway. Believe it or not, some people have a lot of disposable income (which is why those AR/AK's sold for $2k and up during the panic). Raising the prices on guns/ammo is not the solution to the shortage.

In an ideal world that might work, but realistically I don't see it as a smart move by a retailer. Look at CTD, they have guns/ammo in stock in overpriced levels but no one is buying from them. All that will accomplish is piss off consumers and some will boycott their company. What people need to do is comprehensively stop the panic buying so that the supply will come back to normal.
If Walmart was charging $1 a round for .223, they would have it on the shelf.

You kind of proved this yourself with the CTD example. Raise the prices enough and you WILL keep inventory.

Saying that the country needs to stop buying ammo is stupidly useless.

People need to train. People need to practice. People have courses to attend. They have youth to instruct. They have new firearms that they don't have ammunition for.

People are going to buy ammo.

Yep. People have disposable income largely because they're not retarded with their money.

Paying a buck per round for 223 is not smart money.

Such an accurate description. My old man goes to neighboring city's shows to people watch mostly since he rarely purchases anything, but the stories he comes away with are great.

He asked the price of some PMC Bronze at a small table on his last adventure and the guy said $20/20. Dad kind of chuckled, said thanks, and kept walking only to overhear the guy when he was about 10' away tell his potential customers "he's laughing now, but when it's $50/20 in a few months when all of the $1/round stuff is bought up he'll be kicking himself when he has to pull out his wallet."

I'm contemplating going with him next time i'm in town. I feel like I need to see the aftermath of the hysteria and the people still clinging to the idea of ripping folks off.

Are you going to try to ration it like Jimmy Carter wanted to ration gas? What have you got against rich people getting what they worked for?

They did raise their prices on ammo when they have it as well and some of it's by a lot.

Can't say anything bad about shooters world, only wish I was closer and I would be a member there instead but it takes forever to get there and the traffic is terrible the whole way.
You have to remember that the brick and mortar guys have rent to pay as well as taxes and other fees. They won't survive long in the firearms business if they maintain pre-panic prices while trying to get new stock to sell. I am sure quite a few gun shops went tits up because they couldn't make payroll, rent, utilities, and other fees.

So where is all the foreign ammo? Or have we created a global shortage? Are there some kind of restrictions on importing foreign ammo? Surely they make lots of 9mm abroad.

What are you talking about? Ammoman and Wideners have had truckloads of PRVI show up. G&R has had 10s of thousands of rounds of Magtec.

There's plenty coming in, just way too much demand.

I went to a gun show in Fort Wayne IN this last weekend and was pleasantly surprised to see prices have gone way down on everything except .22lr. Scored 260 rounds of new 5.56 for $120. Also got a 33rd Glock mag for $50. Not as cheap as I'd like but way better than the $100 they were going for a month ago.
