I think that folks on this thread have just gotten sensitive to word hoard because there was a lot of ranting by some posters that "hoarding" was one of the prime reasons that ammo prices were remaining elevated and availability limited when firearms were starting to stabilize. It seemed that they didn't want to pay current market prices and took offense when others did.
I wouldn't be too worried about how anyone else interprets the word.

I'm of the opinion that if you want to and have the means (money and storage space) to hoard ammo you should do it!

It's also one of the buzzwords that gun grabbers and extreme liberals use to demonize people who are prepared and attempt to justify laws or actions that interfere with people's actions.

Hoard has a negative connotation to begin with, which they push even more. It often goes hand in hand with arsenal.

Can't let people hoard food, water, toilet paper, ammunition, etc, because that prevents other people from having it. Anybody caught hoarding supplies during an emergency should be giving some to their fellow man in a time of need. Or so some of them say / will say.

    Re: Pipeline is opening up

In the last month I bought a LMT LM8MWS and KAC SR-15 E3 mod 1.

I'm pretty much broke right now. But both were supposed to have huge wait periods and I found them "on the shelf" so to speak. So I guess things are getting better?

Copy. Didn't realize it was so touchy around here.

These are weird times we find ourselves in. I have procured more 30.30 ammo then I have ever had at one time in my life in the last two months because I buy it when I see it since it is such a rarity. If you would have asked me five months ago if I would have ever saw the day where I couldn't find a box of 150 Grain 30.30 rounds in this country I would have laughed...

Honestly though where I am I am seeing more ammo, bullets, and powders slowly trickle back onto shelves. Only at gun stores though, never at sporting stores, or department stores. But I have been finding lots of ammo lately and at almost pre-scare prices (not quite as cheap but close). I'm hardly seeing any quality pistols though and the ones I do find are marked up at a minimum of 100 more then where they were in November.

I will never be caught with less then 1000 5.56 and 7.62x39 again though after this one.

Yes, but a quality 30-30 carbine with a supply of 150 gr Soft Points is nothing to take lightly. I haven't noticed any or thought to look, but the last I bought was probably .65 to .75 a round. How is it priced currently when you can find it?

Well it looks like Lucky Gunner has some 5.56 ammo, but it ain't cheap. Just saying, in case anybody HAS to have it and hasn't been able to locate in bulk anywhere else.

    Good.

Look at how the have not's piss and moan about the availability of ammunition in this current "peace time" shortage. Imagine if their kids were starving . . . while I know this is an extreme example I always point out to people how quickly things can go sideways. It can be enlightening.

You could not be more correct.

I think I pointed that out earlier in this thread. Or in some thread.

Right now it is a shortage of a luxury item. Face it, the people complaining so hardcore about the prices aren't in need of 50 rounds to be able to load a couple of magazines for immediate defensive use. It's a luxury item. (for most who are complaining loudly, I realize for some it's a business issue, but they don't seem to be bitching like that)

Imagine when it's water, or food, or fuel. Or medication.

The "have nots" aren't necessarily who you think they are.

I was never at a shortage of ammo for any caliber (except 30.30) for defensive purposes in a short to medium term emergency, but I was at the point of doing another purchase when everything went south. With the 30.30 I had literally shot my last twenty rounds after hunting season because I had some reloading issues with the Hornady FTX bullets and I needed to function test the rifle (I ****ed up and made some hot rounds, I'm very new to reloading). So I had I think two rounds for my 30.30 until very recently. Not a fun place to be...

We're seeing them around here for between 15 and 28 a box at the moment. Of course I wont buy anything over 20, and I've noticed the places that have inflated prices are slowly dropping them down. We were lucky though and found over 1400 FTX and Nossler 170 grain bullets recently so our shortage problems are solved on that front.

I'm finding a lot of reloading stuff slowly creeping back onto the market. We still can't find a 9mm die. We can't find brass for crap (but I have that 50 gallon drum I could sort if I wanted to). Saw some Federal black boxes of 100 5.56 going for 53 the other day. Didn't buy any but I was shocked to even see it. Picked up some PRVI for 50 cents a round the other day.

I have no sympathy for the people whining about ammo at the moment. It just takes time, persistence, and budgeting. I've gathered over 3000 rounds and around 1800 bullets in the last month. And I have a limited budget, two jobs, and a 6 month old baby who is eating my money like it's candy.

I would love ample supplies everywhere but I would never ask those who have more then me to stop buying what they see if they find it. I do share with my friends though, and they share with me...
