Yesterday I saw 5.56/.223 in my Walmart for the first time since Dec! They had a big stack but it was going fast, even with a limit of three boxes. I had my wife grab three, too.
It's in a blue & white box labeled Independence. $9 and good stuff too, XM193 made in Israel. Brass case, FC headstamp and made this year. Sold by Federal. I hope Walmart keeps getting this stuff, and $45 per 100 isn't a bad price these days.
Then driving home I heard the good news from the Senate votes. A good day (till Waco).

Unless there's absolutely nothing else I would never, ever run steel in my AR, I don't care if it gets down to ten cants a round.

Just managed to pick up 3 boxes of independence 556 at the one of my local Wally World. There was Tula on the shelf also but given the option ill take brass 556 all day.

I did the same thing back in December after the shootings. Academy had around 5k steel rounds in .223 but I passed thinking some brass would be in stock soon. I haven't seen .223 or 5.56 since then. I have a 150 mile corridor that I look for ammo and can't find any. It's depressing.
