Want to try 100M zero, no 100M range...

Another option is to determine the kill zone you want (in inches) and use a ballistics calculator to adjust your sights to max point blank range for the round you are using. This is how I sight in most of my rifles, regardless of their intended purpose. ( the barrel length, twist etc. also factor into this calculation.) if you are interested and can post some specifics I can run the numbers for you.

I was in the same position until I saw LAVs M4 episode on Tactical Arms. He did a 100 yd zero by placing a circle on target and placing another circle 2 inches below that one. You aim t the top one but rounds should impact bottom circle. Once you get it dialed in you will have it zeroed for 100 yards of course LAV says you should confirm it at 100 yards which you could do if a 100 yard range becomes available but this should get you close. I have used this method on all my ARs and they have been spot on when i confirmed them at 100 yards

When considering what distance to zero at, be honest with yourself. At what distance can you shoot consistently enough to reliably dial the gun in? Many are inclined to obsess about .5 - 2" POI differentials, which are of little matter if they're a minute-of-felon shooter.

If you can tell there difference between dead on at 75 and 1/4" low at 75, buy yourself a beer. For most people, they are indistinguishable.

Considering that sight adjustments are generally in the 1/2 inch at 100 meters area, I sort of agree with you, but determining the center of a group to be formed around a central point to within 1/4 inch isn't any kind of phenomenal feat.

That sounds like a rough, but fairly common, way of sighting in for 100 at the 25 yard line. But your post doesn't specify the yardage at which he was doing this....

Wow, hey guys, I just wanted to chime in and say thanks for all of the info. I haven't even fully read all the posts, just skimmed 'em, but as soon as my schedule allows I'll sit down and seriously consider the options presented.

I may be wrong in my philosophy, but my main focus is protection / self defense in my home and on my property (only about a half an acre). I can fantasize about needing my guns at longer distances in a SHTF scenario, but the likelihood of needing my carbine for SD at home is about a bazillion times greater... I consider my carbine first line of defense with a handgun as backup.

I'm also actively working on getting access to a longer range to verify / provide more options for zeroing my carbine.

He was shooting at 25 yards to obtain a 100 yard zero. For a 100 yard zero the point of aim should be 2 inches higher than point of impact at 25 yards. I have done this with all my ARS and when I had a chance to confirm at 100 yards which LAV suggests they were all dead on. Pretty simple.
