I attempted to politely point out that I would have worded this differently, but it would have been more accurate to say that it's wrong.

It ignores the possibility that it is possible--regardless of how hard you train or how much you practice--that you may be presented with a shot that you cannot make with confidence. You might have to hold your fire, reposition, look for another less-optimal target area that you can engage, or do something else.

Should anyone be able to hit a 6" target consistently at 8 yards? Absolutely. Should we train and practice to improve our ability to hit small targets? Again, yes.

But since the original post mentioned a student who declined to take a shot and asked what the collective thought about it I thought I would share my opinion that it important to know when *not* to shoot.
I don't think anyone was saying that you should throw decision making out the window.

Honestly, this is a "well DUH" statement. If you cannot take the shot you simply don't.

In a TRAINING CLASS where you are supposed to push your self and attempt to solve the problem the instructor is presenting to you. So take the shot and if you miss, cool. Lesson learned and now you know your limitations and what you need to work on.

If you cannot take a hard shot in training, then where can you???

    You are welcome Sir.

The KD running drill is a BITCH and eats most peoples lunch. I did see Mr. Vickers shoot it strong hand only with a score of 58.

I would've tried it in the shoot house, but definitely not in real life unless there was really no other way. I've thought a decent amount about my limitations when shooting since getting my CCP, its important that everyone does.

Yes I does! ... couldn't resist that one.

I would need every bit of the 2 seconds and the manikin better hope the adrenalin hasn't kicked in yet. 15 yrds... the manikin is probably going to be screaming "don't shoot don't shoot!" 25 yrds... the manikin is going say to his captor ... "We're screwed... he's going to kill us both."

The man is just a freak of nature.

Thoroughly looking forward to taking future classes with Vickers. Trying to get into a Basic Carbine Class hopefully with him or an instructor later this year.

I see people saying that they would have to slow down to make the shot.

I would argue that you should slow down when you take the shot. Speed should be during the draw, and during presentation of the gun in order to have more time to achieve a proper sight picture and good trigger pull.

A fast miss is still a miss.

This particular list is modified somewhat (for some drills) that accounts for single lane/single target/static range (indoor range) shooting. This drill list is for distances from 3-25yds and include SHO/OSHO shooting at all those distances as well. It may not include your favorite drill, and I may have missed something, but it is made with the CCWer (and his/her gear loadout) in mind to work across all the skill sets that I felt were necessary. Malfunction clearances aren't included, however.

(I also have a drill/standard sheet with alot of the same drills plus others, modified for Carbine)

I will be making another list in the future for ranges where you can move and shoot and/or set up multiple targets next to each other (ie. El Pres) for both Carbine and Handgun.

If anyone wants these, PM me your email address.

Also, if I have missed anything that you feel should be added, PLEASE let me know as I am always looking for another good drill or way to work a skillset.
    PM sent.
    Very generous offer.
    Thanks.

In my first post, I described a hostage type scenario. Honestly though, it is about shooting (and hitting) at what the bad guy gives you. This might be a toe, knee, elbow, etc. These are small targets, but if you can hit the, you may end the fight.
