    Removing the Gas tube

I am getting ready to remove the gas tube from the gas block on the front sight post on a BCM Mid-Length.

A buddy of mine told me that he wouldn't mess with removing the gas tube from the gas bock because when you go to put it back in, you won't know how far to push it in. I always thought that as long as you line up the pin holes, everything is good. Am I wrong in thinking that or is he wrong in telling me this?

He's retarded. The roll pin is the index point.

Thank you. That's what I thought. He just scared me by saying that.

They can be a pain to get out if there are a lot of rounds through it though.

It's brand new. No rounds through it. I suppose it should be easy then?

Should be a piece of cake brand new.

Also, many low profile GB have an open front that allows you to tap out the tube if its stuck.

This is why we don't ask "friends" for gun advice unless they have a clue.

The tubes are fairly easy to remove especially when new. Be careful when removing the roll pin because the punches are pretty thin and can break. I usually use a broken 1/16 punch that I cut and flush to use as a starter and then follow it with the regular 1/16.

Make sure that you have a replacement roll pin on hand as it is generally not recommended to reuse them.

If you are removing it from an FSB you will to push the tube to the rear (into the upper) and then to the left or right as you pull it forward. The same goes when you reinstall it.

Might I ask why you are removing it? Are you making some type of modification?

Cool. Thanks for the info. I did get a couple replacement pins from Midway in case I damage them when I punch it out. I'll just go ahead and replace it even if it looks in tact since you said it's not recommended to reuse them.

I am removing it so I can cut the Handguard Cap. I just received my Centurion Arms C4 rail in the mail and the directions say to remove the gas tube in order to cut that handguard off. Doing it this way looks a lot easier than removing the flash hider and then removing the entire front sight post. If you have any other ideas when it comes installing the C4 Rail then I'm all ears.

Nope. Since I wrote the installation instructions for that rail you are doing it exactly as recommended. Removing the FSB is a last resort.
