    Hello all,
Troy has the right idea with his arbor press. I just bought a 1/2 ton model from harbor freight tools and it took all of 60sec to remove two taper pins from the FSB. It didn't leave a single scar nor did it tear up the pins. That was some of the best $40 I have spent recently. Good luck gents with taking a hammer and punch to your pin removal jobs, they can be a bear.

I was just in harbor freight today and looked at the presses. I wasn't sure a 1/2 ton would be sufficient. Now I know it is. I get the jig thing, but how do you set a punch with the arbor?

    Re: Gas Block Removal

I built a fancy contraption with a drill chuck threaded onto a bolt That fit the hole in the arbor. Complete waste of time. Its easier for me to just line it all up by hand and apply pressure. The weight of the ram will keep it in line.

This is a fal barrel, but the concept is the same. If I snatched down that sucker would pop right out.

I start with a small torx or hex bit to n break the pin loose, they're too short to bend easily. Then I chase it through with my regular punch.

Troy is quick on the draw, I bought the FSB holder from ADCO, and used a hex bit from this screw driver set.

A light hammer with speed behind it will move a pin out better than a heavy hammer.

I picked up an 1 ton arbor press with 20% at harbor freight, about $40. I found this simple mod that really benefits a setup. Grind out the bottom two teeth. This makes a quick fix for getting the best position for leverage. I can think of other uses for this but for pushing pins I think I'll use torx bits set in a socket to help stable instead of boring out the arbor rail. At least for now.

About 2:40 gets to the point.

I used a shop press to take AK's apart, but I have NEVER needed a press to remove FSB pins from an AR. A 1/4" or 3/8" punch to get it started and some elbow grease works every time.
