Another 6940 series and Aimpoint PRO fan here. I just added an X300 with a LaRue mount to my 6944, and my initial impression is that it does not take up that much space on the rail. The LaRue mount also has the added benefit of being easier and quicker to remove than the stock X300 mount.

That combination might be worth your consideration.

    Best Regards,

It's probably all been said, but I'll say it again.

Lose the AFG. You're right, the rail is too short. Even a handstop won't work well on it. My favorite VFG is the Magpul. Nice, wide grip surface, works best for thumb over top style grip.

With a carbine stock, I would always choose a lower angled grip. Stark, Umbrella, BCM, and soon Magpul all have options. These will allow you to close the stock up and square your up body.

ETA: I just saw you went with the handstop. Let us know how that works.

Will, I think the rifle looks great, but I'm biased.
And obviously I'm in the minority after reading through this thread about the AFG. I feel it's the most comfortable position to hold the rifle and offers plenty of control for me. I tried a VFG on my buddies S&W AR-22 and it seemed quite awkward to me. The way I see it is there aren't many other rifles out there besides AR's and maybe AK's the use VFG...why are they so recommended over nothing at all or at least the AFG?
    Go Buffalo !
