MRPs are one of the few truly monolithic uppers, a topic that has been discussed in numerous threads. A major benefit of the mrp is that it only takes 2-3 minutes to changes barrels in the MRP system. You can use chrome lined which they come with or purchase a stainless steel match type barrels. You can change barrel lengths, etc. this can all be done in your garage (or while your on the toilet if you'd like--bottom line it's really simple) with a torque wrench that comes with the upper. I recently sold a DD 300 blackout upper because I acquired an lmt mrp 300 blackout barrel. That said, I don't change barrels all that often but I do a couple of times a year and its very nice to have the functionality. You also can mount optics anywhere on the top rail to suit your purposes.
MRPs are top notch uppers. i have owned and shot LMTs, colts, BCMs, daniel defense and knights armament. i recently thinned the herd based on what i shoot (stays) and what i dont (goes). This was based over the last two years. i parted with colts, BCM, daniel defense and an lmt (non mrp). Of the 556 factory guns, i still have a couple complete lmt rifles with MRPs and all my KAC. To be clear, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or own any the rifles I had from the other manufacturers. They are all "top tier". In fact, I'm going on my 2.5 months of not owning at least 1 colt 556 since 1989 and I'm doing alright.
It comes down to preference and purpose. If you are looking for a very high quality basic AR to shoot from time to time and you are sure you aren't going to change/experiment with barrel lengths, calibers, etc. then go with any uppers from those listed above (and a few others) including the MRP but it is more expensive than high quality basic upper but not much once you add a good rail. If any of the benefits of the monolithic upper and the mrp design appeal to you then go with it. You won't be disappointed.
