New Blackhills 5.56 62gr TSX Optimized

Anyone else heard of this stuff? Will it have the same construction as the 5.56 50gr barrier load?

    Looks great!

Perhaps DocGKR could comment on the pros/cons of this load vs the 50 gr TSX and the 70 gr TSX AKA brown tip.

    Sounds like a great compromise

Hmmm, this may be just what the doctor ordered. Heavier than the 50 grainer but with energy closer to the 70!

Wonder if the range is notably greater than the 50 grain stuff. If my calculations were correct, the 50 grain Black Hills TSX load was limited to about 175 yards or so out of a 16" barrel for full effect (due to the high FPS needed for full expansion).
"Why "zombies"? Because calling it 'training to stop a rioting, starving, panicking, desperate mob after a complete governmental financial collapse apocalypse' is just too wordy." or in light of current events: "training to stop a rioting, looting, molotov cocktail throwing, skinny jeans wearing, uneducated bunch of lemmings duped by, or working directly for, a marxist organization attempting to tear down America while hiding behind a race-based name"

For LE and CONUS defensive use, the 50 gr TSX is hard to beat.

For longer ranges and hunting tougher game, the 70 gr TSX is outstanding.

    Price and availability?

If it is cheaper than the 70gr it might be a good buy.

I have a older-style box of BH with Barnes 62g TSX that I have had for over a year. I use it for hog hunting, works great.
I duplicate it with my reloads and would like to know what the optimized loading is.

I don't know about barrier performance.

    Have fun,

    Doc,

I am real curious why more manufacturers aren't using the Tipped TSX. I have searched for the Holy Grail of 5.56 ammo: the round that is barrier blind, offers a decent temporary stretch cavity and provides the required minimum penetration through all mediums. I also want the extended range of the better, heavy OTM's with their higher ballistic coefficients. It seems like the 62 grain TTSX would fit this bill nicely, since I have been told it can reliably expand down to 1700 fps, as well as the fact the increased BC (.294) added by the tip maintains the minimum expansion velocity out past 450 yards.

It seems to me that the range of the Black Hills 50 gr TSX is really limited, as its low BC gives up velocity incredibly fast.

Bump as I'd like to know the answer to that as well.
