    Advice Needed for EXPS3-0

    Greetings!

I just ordered a Eotech EXPS3-0 with a Eotech G33 3x Magnifier. They should come tomorrow.

It would be great if some of you Eotech users would give a little advice.
Almost all of what I find on YouTube is from someone that just opened the box.
I'd like some tips rom you veteran Eotech users.

I downloaded the XPS Series manual and read it.

It seems to recommend a 25 meter zero, but later a chart shows 50 yards as the first zero.

I will use it on a 2009 version of the Colt LE6920 with the carry handle removed.
My shooting range goes out to 100 yards for target shooting. The most important use is home defense, supposedly 50 yards and under.

The 3-0 has a single dot. You can zero it at whatever distance you'd like. Search around here, there's lots of info on various distances to zero your optic to. Mine is zero'd at 50 yds. Many prefer the 100 yd zero. It's whatever you prefer.

"IF" this is a legit inquiry I will offer the following advice....

Ditch the carry handle on your 6920 and mount your Eotech and magnifier to the flat-top picatinny rail and get a flip-up rear sight.

Invest your money in a formal training class based in the fundamentals with a quality instructor. Youtube won't teach you how to properly use your carbine.

    nickdrak,

    1. I have no idea why you think I'm not legit.
    2. I just edited to show "carry handle removed"
    3. I had many quality instructors during my 30 years in the Air Force, and four Iraq tours with the Army.

I have G33 magnifiers and EXPS 3.0's on 3 rifles. Only thing I can add is don't forget to use the 7mm spacer on the magnifier as the EXPS 3.0 has it built in. This will give you a lower 1/3 co-witness which is what I prefer.

BTW, there is room under the magnifier for the Magpul BUIS to fit as well.

    Good shooting

The AF teaches a 25/300 zero. Go with a 100 zero. So much easier and more useful.

What's your afsc and when did you last deploy? A lot has changed in the last 5 yrs or so.

The EXPS 3.0 has an advertised battery life of 600 hours. If you left it on 8 hours a day it would last more than 2 months. I have no problem with that since I don't shoot every day but even if I did 600 hours is not bad. It's not an Aimpoint but it seems acceptable to me

Advertised run time and actual run time in the real world are two distinctly different numbers.
Carry extra batteries and train your back up irons if you are carrying the rifle in a capacity that pins lives to your use of it.

The same advice applies to all battery dependent systems.

My Air Force AFSC was 303x1, Air Traffic Control Radar Maintenance.

As an Army Civilian I maintained the mobile Command & Control Centers. My last deployment was 2009-2010. I'm fully retired now.

To all who recommended extra batteries, I have a pack to keep in my gun bag.

I think 600 hours is more than enough. I figure if I change it out once a year, I'll never have to worry about it.
