    Federal Fusion 62gr - 2 Different Loadings?

Federal lists 2 Fusion loadings in 223 62gr on their website. The regular Fusion 223 (F223FS1) and the MSR loading (F223MSR1). The MSR loading is for "Military Sporting Rifles" and packaged with an AR on the box.

I would think these are the exact same loadings, with one being marketed to the AR crowd as opposed to the hunting crowd.

But the advertised velocities on the Federal Website are quite different. The standard loading F223FS1 shows a velocity of 3000 fps from the muzzle, and the MSR loading shows a muzzle velocity of 2750 fps from the muzzle. That is quite a difference.

    http://www.federalpremium.com/products/rifle.aspx

Are they using faster burning low-flash powders in the MSR load? Why would the MSR loading have so much lower velocity? I'm wondering if the test barrels were different lengths? The barrel lengths are not shown. Anyone know?

Personally I would be inclined to purchase the standard Fusion to get more velocity for my SBR.

There is some information on the MSR and standard Fusion differences in the 2013 Federal catalogs.

They should load the msr version to 5.55 pressures. I have a couple boxes of the fusion on standby, but would love to get my hands on more.

There really isn't enough gain for the end user in doing so. Nor is it worth the annoyance to ATK when customers run the 5.56 loadings in good-as guns and generate claims. (See also: the 24455 discussion)

    BOOM. THIS.

ATK learned their lesson and, unfortunately, won't be repeating it. No more true 5.56 pressure defensive rounds aside from mil-contract overrun shiz.

Idiots ruin everything. Is the Blackhills the only company left with balls that will sell high quality 5.56 defensive ammo to civilians?

That is really a silly thing to get bothered by. You are not going to notice any difference in performance.

I think they are. On a smaller scale, Corbon and SSA load to 5.56 pressures for certain rounds.
