I have done hundreds of flash hiders/comps using either an upper receiver clam shell and in some cases a magwell block and have never tweaked a receiver or anything else. 30 ft./lbs. is also not alot of torque by any means and most people who eat their "Wheaties" can achieve this w/o a torque wrench.

Is Barry Dueck's method illustrated by surefire officially, using a block pinned in the upper okay, or is a barrel block or reaction rod totally necessary? Upper is a factory dd 10.3".

I shred things. Why? Because I'm a jackass and use socket wrenches to tighten lug nuts and whine when I twist them in half. I know tbis about myself. I use the wrong tools. I was trying to do this 100% by the book so as to avoid any unpleasantry. I am gathering that while intellectually I am capable, and physically I am capable, I'd rather just have someone else do this for me. I know just the someone, and they have already offered, so ill just box it up and ship it to them. Thanks!

The shim is for the barrel nut that comes with the Seekins rail, not the flash hider. They are like peel washers. If the hole for the gas tube doesn't line up at the right torque, you add a washer.

I've done dozens of these as I've said, just a stupid mistake from not paying attention.

    I don't care how many you've done.

Learn from it and certainly don't worry about it. We appreciate any knowledge gained from your honest, unusual mistake.

A Geissele reaction rod would have prevented this.

I knew what you meant which is why I asked. Do they state a torque value? There is a reason why the torque value is from 30-80 ft/lbs. The shim nonsense seems like its being advocated by people who don't know how to barrel an upper.

Torque value in the instructions says 40-50lbs. If in 40-50lbs you can not get a hole to line up with the tube to add appropriate shim. Just following instructions as far as the shim. I've never used one with any other application. For the record these rails do use an unusual barrel nut.

Regardless, I messed up, I realize this. I also expected some flack when I asked about the uppers condition, but geez...
