    Re: $2000 for a rifle.

Off the shelf I'd snag a Jack Carbine or Noveske SBR.

Build would be a billet Mega receiver set, Noveske 11.5 SS, Geissele or NSR rail, Magpul plastics and MBUS. BCM/Colt guts and Geissele trigger group. Surefire light setup and AAC can mount. This would all be less the 200 for stamp.

Please post what you would build or buy with $2K pre sandy hook. Leave out optics, ammo, mags, and training. I just want to focus on the rifle itself.

    Thanks.

Edit: This includes factory and custom builds.
A KAC SR15...and it will still leave you with a few hundred to put toward ammo or optics.
The rifle feels very light and well balance compared to my Colts. Many people say it shoots soft but personally I am not so attuned that I notice a difference between it, Colt, LMT or even a DPMS. I am recoil dumb I guess. Fit/finish is top quality. Has the two stage trigger which is nice (I have a Geissele SSA-E but don't have it installed so can't compare).
With the exception of a bolt catch on the port side, it is fully ambi. Has a nice rail with BUIS installed.
A lot of rifle for what I paid...

    I had $2000 to spend, and I bought a KAC SR-15 Mod1.

KAC SR15 Mod 1, or a 11.5" CQB which could run a little over 2k.

pre craziness, AR15, no optics? I wouldn't spend $2k on 1 so I guess the 2 Colts like others posted.

However, since I think of the optics as a part of the rifle, this is one I have $2k in now:

    Spikes complete rifle (fde upper/lower)
    18" LW50 mid 1:8
    PWS FSC556
Spikes BAR (it's not bad on a rifle you're not trying to keep light/slim)
Assorted rail covers (mostly ladder with TD on bottom)
    Troy front and rear BUIS
    Spikes NiB bcg
    PRI ch
    VTAC sling
    LT104 with SWFA SS1-6x24
    SSA-E

The last 2 items are half the price. I'll post a pic when I put the SS1-6 on (finally here after 11 months) and go to the range or ranch.

my knights and my sig 229 elite dark before I added the battlecomp, moe grip and removed the magpul afg. For the love of god dont waste your money on an afg, its worthless.

I did spend $2000 on an AR, the BCM EAG. Only factory 14.5" mid at the time (2010). I still like it (after I put the SOPMOD and T-1 on it), but since I now have a "basic" AR, I'd be smoking crack if it wasn't either a custom build, or an SR-15E3. Plus to be frank it's outdated in terms of rail system.

    Custom build would look like:
Noveske gen 2, Lancer, or KAC lower
    Either 10.5 or 14.5 middy
SOPMOD, but I would probably give the Bravo a shot.
NSR or whatever will be the greatest keymod rail in the near future
SF Fury, until SF produces a 1000 lumen light. Mount is irrelevant.

Everything else I'm open to, besides optic (T-1).

My "ideal" AR would be Grant's set up (for those of you who have used it). But that probably costs a little more than $2000.
