If I had $2000 to spend on one general purpose rifle right now, I'd get the following:

    - Colt M4A1 SOCOM I or II rifle
    - Aimpoint PRO optic
    - BFG Vickers sling
    - Surefire light
    - 10 Magpul PMAGs

That should be fine for the vast, vast majority of the applications you'd need an AR for.

    Arrow

I am very happy with my Noveske Light Recce LO-PRO, purchased prior to SH for near that price.

That's an easy one for me. I don't do builds and warship at the throne of Knights Armament. Hands down the SR-15E3 MOD1. Failing that an LE6920 railed with an Eotech.

    $2000 for a rifle.

My Larue PredatAR with irons, Battlecomp, surefire light and a few upgrades came in under 2K. My Jack Carbine was around 2K. My pieced together BCM is just under 2K with a 2 stage Geissele, Daniel Defense rail and surefire brake.

It's tough to piece together a decent quality AR, with a nice rail and Geissele trigger for under 2K.
