    The lowdown on D-Aspartic Acid?

Willbrink, this thread is kind of directed to you since you spend a lot of time studying this. I'm looking for some "right-to-the-point" concise answers--mainly because the speakers on my computer don't work, so I'd appreciate some responses I can read and reread.

The background: I'm nearly 50 and in the category of wanting a little more "get-up-and-go" and I've experimented with things like Tribulus Terrestris, Fenugreek, Catuaba, and whatnot as supposed boosters of LH (luteinizing hormone) that is supposed to stimulate the testes to produce more testosterone naturally, thereby avoiding the pitfalls of protohormones which can affect your natural production. (I typed all that happy horseshit from memory, so bear with me. I'm just trying to spout what I think I know from a novice standpoint).

Now, the reason for this thread.

All those supplements I named seem to do a mild job. It's like a cup of coffee gives you a "pick-me-up" but nothing dramatic. I feel like they give me more pep, and if they pick up the libido in some minimal way--hey--that's the cherry on top and nothing more.

Now let me explain my situation.

Back in December, a bodybuilding buddy of mine handed me a couple of capsules of D-Aspartic Acid totalling 3 grams for the sum of both capsules.

He laughed that I was about to be impressed. I laughed and put the pills in my pocket not really thinking too much about them.

The next morning I decided to take them just for shits and giggles and I was immediately surprised. These things boosted my libido like gangbusters. You know, you don't know you have a problem until you feel what it's like NOT to have it.

Talking to my buddy again, I found out he takes 3 grams a day for two weeks, then takes a week off so his body doesn't get a tolerance for it. He said he also integrates an aromatose inhibitor into the mix so his body doesn't start converting test to estrogen (although I forget what his regimen was with this).

So, I like the pep DAA gives me and I sure don't mind the libido boost, but is this stuff safe? My first two pills obviously had an effect that cannot be attributed to a placebo effect (especially since I wasn't even particularly interested in the product).

I actually ordered a bottle of the stuff, but I've kind of been afraid to take it more than "once in a while" because I'm afraid it's kind of dangerous.

I know you'll probably say it's in my head and DAA doesn't really do what I think it's doing but I swear the dang shit works. Is it safe to keep taking, and how would you administer it?

that data I've seen suggests that DAA helps normalize testosterone, so if you are low/low normal it may give you a nice boost into normal, but if you are normal, it is doubtful it will have a significant effect and my friend has done numerous blood tests with around 3 dozen people and found that in most cases it also increased prolactin. It's not something I personally recommend unless you have low testosterone

Personally, not convinced it will help normalize men with low T, and the effects on prolactin and E2, make it a poor choice in my view. But, I guess if someone wanted to try it for that use, and was willing to get the appropriate blood work done to see what effects it was actually happening, no harm done, other than the $$$$.
