Actually, with the exception of the odd High-Power, I would say that LTW is perhaps the quintessential 1911-specific site on the web; however, the scope and purpose of the site are such that it tends to be a fairly quiet resource these days. The guns discussed and presented there comprise the absolute pinnacle of the art where the 1911 is concerned, and one need only review the list of site principals to see why: pistolsmiths like Bailey, Burton, Christensen, Harrison and Yost, to name just a few. You'll also find guys like John Ralston, Chuck Rogers and Patrick Sweeney there. Trouble is, what was once conceived as a place where the best in the business might share details of their latest work and provide other technical insights, things more or less reached a point a few years ago where either most everything seemed to have been said already, or the trade knowledge that some expected to flow never really was all that forthcoming for obvious reasons. LTW is the place where guys who are very serious about these guns still pop in with some regularity, but it is also a place where a $7k 1911 is fully-understood and appreciated, so your typical newcomer to the pistol is not going to find much of direct relevance to his interests there.
Not a lot of discussion, as far as forums go, but definitely the place to see and learn about the finest 1911s being built today by the most talented guys in the trade.
