So what's the latest and greatest optic for an SPR?

I haven't bought an AR in...a year and a half? (I just realized to a normal person that's not very long at all)

When the panic hit, I streamlined my collection to 2 SBR's only. I'm definitely a practical guy and having six ARs that all did the same thing wasn't as appealing as making tons of money on people who were somehow surprised that Obama was actually making a gun control push. Now I only have a 10.3" suppressed with an Aimpoint T1 and a 12.5" BCM SS with a 4x ACOG. Both are relatively close range weapons even though I've taken the 12.5" out to 565 yards.

What I would like is a 16" (or 18") rifle that can reach out a bit further than the 12.5" due to the longer barrel as well as a higher power optic. I'd really like an 18" barrel but that just seems unnecessary. I am a champion at long range shooting with short barrel, one day I will be able to hang with MarkM, IG, and Trident. What caught my eye is the new DD 16" upper Grant is offering that has the Salt Bath Nitride barrel.

I'm good with the setup I want on the rifle. I just want to know what kind of optic choices I have. I used to have a 1-4x Vortex PST on a 16" Recce that was very nice but it was only 4x. I think the 8x leupold is the minimum magnification I'd want. Max range will most likely be 565 yards even though I could theoretically shoot out to 1000.

Needs to be quality, waterproof, smash proof f (I do not baby my rifles) but I do not want to spend $3,000 on an S&B. Somewhere around the $1500 is more ideal. Any ideas?

I am a big fan of the Mk6 3-18x by Leupy.
The reticle offering is good, and more are on the way.

My 14.5 Noveske currently has a Mark IV 2.5-8x TS30-A2, with the TMR reticle and a RMR in a offset mount.

Good magnification to size/weight/form factor. Just about as much scope as I would want for a 5.56mm.

I've had more low power variables than SPR type scopes. 1-4s, 1-6s, ACOGs etc. With the cost/availability of ammo now, I find myself shooting more distance type stuff than hammer drills.

I like the 2.5-10X Nightforce NXS for 5.56mm based guns, but I'm sure that there are better optics nowadays.

Glad to see you back, Eurodriver.

I have the new Vortex PST 2.5-10x32 FFP on order. I think that magnification range makes perfect sense for any 5.56 gun that will spend more time shooting beyond 200 yards than inside 50. Good all around magnification range for hunting and target shooting, and defensive purposes in a pinch.

But if this is purely a range toy, I see no reason not to go for something like a 4-16

I want one of these. Will sell my Nightforce to get one when funds allow.
