Yojimbo, Dawson is no longer making the rail, but they still are making the adapter. Steve at MARS is making the appropriate rail. As far as I know, it's a dimensional copy to the Dawson rail.

I have the MARS and Dawson Rails. Functionally they are the same. The MARS has a little more meat to it from my observation.
For holsters the Raven Rigs are my preference but I also have a COMP-TAC IWB for CC w/out the X300.
So... how many holsters fit the Dawson with X300 setup?
If one used an Inforce APL would this help fit it into holsters - or does it throw everything else off?
I suppose this a gunsmith only job?
Thanks.
Any pics of the surefire mount installed?
SA told me they would not add a rail to a non rail gun like the (non rail) TRP. I forget the specifics but something about the weight causing eventual problems.
First ive heard of this, but I dont know a great deal about 1911s
I have a 10-8 Nighthawk with Dawson rail and X300U; for OWB holster I've been using a Safariland 6004 for MC Operator & X300. It works as it should with the tension screw tightened nearly all the way in. I could not get either of Safariland's 6378 offerings (both railed and standard dust cover) to work with the Dawson Rail and retain the pistol correctly.
I also was able to have JM Custom Kydex make an AIWB and OWB w/X300U.
I'm currently having made at JR Customs Leather their AWIB model and an OWB model. I'll probably get those in the next 6-8 weeks or so.
As for compatibility with a 1911 w/Inforce APL holster, I doubt it. Especially if it is a tight fit, vacuum sealed kydex type holster. The APL is smaller/slimmer in every way compared to the X300.
You dig your grave with your fork.
You could always go for one of these:

You won't be able to run your own grips and the looks may not be for everyone, but it's cheap and requires no permanent modifications to your firearm.
heres mine on my springer. it does not fit on my Armscor made 1911 though, the frame is too wide.

.OlllllllO.
What do you guys think about this grip & rail system for the 1911?
