    Best hunting optic under $1000?

Im finishing up a 300blk build that I'll be shooting both supers and subs out of. This will be my main hunting gun and will be shot out to 300yds max with most shots being sub 150yds. It needs a pretty low end mag range too as I occasionally walk up on a pack of hogs close in so quick acquiring would be nice.

Ive got a viper pst 1-4 on my 223 and like it but am kinda considering the new 2.5-10 ffp they came out with. I'd love to get away with a SPARC or eotech but I dont think it'll be good enough for compensating for subsonic rounds. Im not stuck on vortex I've just been happy with the ones I own.

For under $1000 Vortex is starting to own the market. They are putting out quality optics for a decent price.

Vortex has their 1-6X Razor HD II scope which you can find for around $1,200.

I'd also take a look at the 1-6X Leupold VX-6, either the standard reticle choices or their multigunner reticle. Weight is 14 oz and has a daytime bright red dot. They also have a 2-12x scope.

A 2.5-10x might be a bit of overkill.

Another recommendation for the VX-6 1-6X. It's an amazing scope for the money. I bought the VX-6 2-12 first, but really like having the 1X on my hunting rifle. The 1-6X will definitely go with on my next trip to Africa.

I've owned a few Nikons and love them. You can find a great Nikon of whatever mag range you want for well under $1K.

Only problem with the leupold is that it doesnt have a subtension type reticle which I will need to accurately compensate for subsonic rounds.

I really like the 1-6 razor but dang that thing is a friggin boat anchor. Especially once I add in the weight of the suppressor Im looking at a 13# AR. Ive read good things about the bushnell elites and this one kinda interests me

Either of those choices is a bit more than Im really looking to spend though. Maybe Ill try my 1-4 pst on it and see how I like it. Wish I could find a local place that has a 2.5-10x32 to try. For 700 that one would be awesome and allow me to buy another NFA goodie.

I think your 1-4X will serve you quite well. I'm always surprised at how often my hunting shots are taken at 2-4X when I'm using a 2-12X, etc.

I have a 1-4 VX-R Leupold on my 300blk "hog" gun and couldn't ever imagine a need to use more than 4x magnification. I'm in South FL though so the open field shots at 600 yards are basically non-existent. All the animals I've shot have been easily inside 100, most at like 20 yards.
300blk, even supers drop pretty good after not much distance...

Ive only taken my 1-4 out to the range once so I dont have any field experience with it yet. Was just hesitant about 4x being enough for a clean shot on a deer at 300yds. Banging steel is one thing, placing a fatal shot in the boiler room is another.

I built this AR in 300BLK because at my lease 300yds is the max I can realistically shoot and the 300BLK has plenty of ass to make it there without getting too crazy on elevation. Plus I want to take out some hogs nice and quietly while deer hunting
