    Vortex and Weaver

Came out better than I thought and am looking for a new scope. Right now with my budget(5-550) I'm looking at the Vortest PST 1-4 and Weaver Tactical 1-5. Gun is range and hunting so shots are 10 -300 yards. Would either of these hold up or would I be better off saving and getting a SWFA or Leaupold VX6>

I would get a Vortex before a Weaver and a Luepold or Burris before either.

Burris has several good options (1inch and 30mm) in your price range. Leupold does as well, including their AR series scopes.

I'm not sure what qualities you're looking for, butthere are several options in that price range

Heck, you can get a Luepold for $230 shipped here: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/330...-reticle-matte

That Luepold and an ADM mount will run you less than you're overall budget combined.

ETA: disclaimer, I don't own the VX- Hog linked above. Just been eyeing it. But, with theblifetime warranty and Luepold's quality, its worth your consideration along with their other sub $500 scopes.

Burris XTR is a nicer scope than either of your first two and has a warranty comparable to the Vortex. At the same $500ish I would probably choose it.

Vortex has a great warranty and their illumination works well, but the reticle is very small and the PST line kind of straddles the line between fun scopes and more serious scopes. The Weaver tactical line is pretty good and the 1-5x is a nice extension of magnification. Their warranty is only good for the first owner (new), however.

The weaver would be new so no problem I think with their current rebate it would within 50 of a used xtr. As far as mounts I've only used ADM, how does the burris PEPR qd compare?

I had a Burris PEPR temporarily before I found an ADM mount for my accupoint and it was ok for what it is but doesn't compare to the ADM in build quality. The rings on the Burris were fine but the QD felt very flimsy.
My 7 iron is more accurate than my capabilities. Same with my AR.

The PEPR QD costs 3/4 of what an ADM costs and isn't nearly as good. I have one, also two regular PEPRs and several ADMs. Spend a little more for the ADM if you can.

I have used the Weaver (in both a Weaver SPR mount and an ADM mount) and think that it would meet your needs. I've ran it at a carbine class and used it to smack steel at 400 yards.

    Just my $0.02...

I was looking for a mount and someone pointed me to DD. I had to choose the ADM Recon for $130.00
