    Quick question KAC SR-15 e3

Just received a new SR-15. Fresh out of the box, I pulled on the charging handle to lock bolt so I could disconnect the upper from lower. CH went back easy, so I figured must have already been charged. Try to open the rifle, and it doesn't budge. Look in the ejection port (which had been closed until I pulled the CH) and BCG is stuck in the RE. Gave it a couple good whacks, didn't do any thing. Whacked it harder, still nothing. Had to drop the stock on the floor to get the carrier to dislodge. It returned to charged position. It hasn't stuck like that that again yet, but I'm wanting to know if this is something I need to worry about before I sent rounds down range. I've never had that happen before. What could cause this? Remember, brand new rifle, no shells or primer part to jamb stuff up.

    Thanks

You tried to open it with the bolt locked back?

If the Ejection port was closed before you pulled the charging handle, but then opened when you pulled back, then most likely the BCG was forward until you pulled the handle because the side of the BCG is what flips the port open. Did you have an empty magazine in the lower when you pulled the Bolt back?

Why would you need to lock the bolt back to disconnect the upper from the lower?

    I'm not quite following.
What I am reading is this:

    Locked bolt to the rear.
Tried to open upper with bolt to rear.
    Did not open.
Whacked the stock to release the bolt.

Did you try to use the bolt release to return the bolt forward?
Is there a buffer and action spring in the receiver extension?

Guess I'm not explaining myself properly. Pulled CH to charge trigger so I could put into Safe. After charging, tried to release bolt. Started shooting ARs in the late 90s when I was a teenager, but didn't know about forums or anything like that on the Internet. Just found this one relatively recently and still learning proper terminology. I was always told to pull on charging handle to be able to put into safe mode and to make sure everything is cleared before opening. As far as dust cover being closed, it felt like someone just closed it. There was definitely no pressure when pulling back on the CH. I have several other ARs (BCM, Larue, LMT, DD uppers on Noveske lowers, complete 6920, POF AR-10, and even my original Bushmaster) never had this happen before.

Hard to explain, and of course I don't have pics, but the carrier was stuck further than where it should have been, as in not contacting the release.

No where do you say that. In your initial post you say you pulled on the CH to lock the bolt back so that you could separate upper from lower. You go on to say it seems as if the bolt was already locked back (makes sense because if it came with the lock, the bolt needs to be locked back) because the CH went back easily so you go ahead and try to 'open the rifle'.

Also, you don't need to engage the safety to separate upper from lower.

From your written description, it appears that you locked the BC back, then pushed out the pin that holds the upper and lower together. When you did so, it caused the BCG to bind up. That problem has now been cleared up and the rifle is functioning normally. I once did the same thing. There is nothing wrong with your rifle but it won't cost you a thing to remove the buffer and action spring from the receiver extension to inspect the parts for defects or foreign objects
