I learned something from this thread

    So I appreciate the discussion.

A friend wants to try my SPR-M4 on his 12.5 LMT piston upper. I was concerned about it being piston driven. However, we would not have been able to see the reflex mount AAC 51T having this potential problem until the bad (baffle strike) thing happen if indeed it would.

So now I can be more cautious in this application, appreciated.

i'm as big of a proponent of them as you'll find.

2nd carbine I've purchased from them in as many years. that's why i feel i CAN bad mouth them.

i'm not stating anything other than the obvious and have every right to highlight their pitfalls and compare their work to other mfg's and vice versa.

i'm simply stating fact. plenty of mfg's take a final few minutes to finish threading their barrels those few extra tenths of an inch. it's a few cunt hairs for ****s sakes; however, it obviously saves them enough coin where they warrant it.

i think it's bullshit and i'll continue to say so until somebody locks the thread. it was a pain in my nutsack and if i had attempted to mount this brake to my BCM barrel it would already have 200 rounds through it.

i appreciate the input from Robb and others who offered their input.
I think you are missing the point that Robb and others have said. There is nothing wrong or any cost saving corners being cut by LMT. They cut it exactly as the determined they wanted it. You are bitching because now that you are trying to change it to your personal preference it does not make it easy for you. I built an upper today with a Noveske .300 blackout barrel and it was threaded a little further than your barrel. I just looked at a LMT MRP barrel I had cut down by Adco and it is threaded exactly like yours. If you choose a flash hider that was not designed to overlap the barrel you would not be bitching right now. LMT makes great stuff. I have enjoyed owning a 10.5 MRP for several years. Luckily for me my suppressor mount does not overlap the barrel at all. Your problem has been solved and you know what to do to make your aftermarket parts work on your rifle.

I would suggest contacting either of the companies by phone & email ( LMT / AAC ) and copy the email to the other company as well.

So they can check up to see who's product the issue is.

As a general comment, it is very common for people to seek help from forums to issues that might be more easily solved by contacting the manufacturer.

My experiences with LMT barrels are good, our products have been fitting on them correctly and aligning well.

    Best Regards!

Very commonn indeed. Slightly less common is someone ranting and raving over what a very knowledgeable member is say is normal.

eta: but again, I'm all ears for what LMT has to say.

well, i reckon that's me homie.

    i'm just an "uncommon" sumbitch.

    LMT said it's the norm.

so, note to all, if you plan on running a QD can on LMT 556 guns, either purchase a set of shims with a chamfer spacer or get a set of 762 shims.

i think we can close this now.

    thanks

Why didn't you simply ask AAC for a spacer they should have provided? Every single SureFire muzzle device comes with one of those spacers in their shim kit.

    I wouldn't use 762 shims.

they DID provide me with a kit.....that's the entire problem.

jesus h christ. is nobody reading my first few posts? i thought i did pretty good in explaining.

nothing....not my Brake, not the shims, not even the supplied A2 birdcage flash hider (without the crushwasher) will get over the unthreaded portion of the barrel. being that i can't USE a crushwasher and can't find a Surefire kit with this magical spacer, i need to use a 762 shim.

EVERYTHING THAT I DROP ON THERE STOPS SHY OF HITTING THE SHOULDER.

Hey, Buckjay, could one simply take a die and cut threads the rest of the way to the shoulder and then use the supplied shims to time the QD FH?

I am about to mount a QD FH on my LMT, but haven't removed my factory FH yet.

The picture the OP posted looks normal. USGI threads do not have a negative or positive relief before the shoulder and are no suppose to. The LMT barrel is most likely made correctly.

You just need to use enough shims to get past this.
