But back on topic no I do not have a RDS and a scope for he same rifle. I just got into shooting long range and have purchased a Larue QD mount for my .308ar at some point down the road I will probably pick up a RDS for it, maybe if I upgrade my colt to a Aimpoint micro ill move my current RDS to the 308.

Is there a reason you don't want both on the rifle and immediately available? On a current 6.8 project, I'll be doing exactly what you're asking about, because it will be primarily used for hunting and patrol work. I plan to have a Vortex Viper PST in a LaRue QD mount, and an Aimpoint H1 on a LaRue QD base, depending on the mission of the day.
My Noveske 5.56 wears both at the same time and it does work well, if a little less "snag free".

Yes, I do have two different optics for the same rifle.
On my 14.5" "work clone", I run both a TA01 and a CompM4 because those are what I have at my disposal at work. The mission drives the gear and I like not only having options, but actually being proficient with them.
And yes, I have swapped optics on deployment to meet individual mission requirements. Necessary? That's debatable...but still, the mission drives the gear.
Sorry, I missed the sarcasm. Anyway, I like my setup as it works well for me. If I had more cash to spend on my hobby, I would buy more and nicer, but the rest of my spending is tasked to other priorities for the foreseeable future.

I have an aimpoint compm2 and an acog ta01
I use the aimpoint if I know I'm shooting less than 100 yards that day, and the acog for 100+
And always practice with my irons in both situations as well
