Wal-Mart closing out sales of rifle calibers?

I hope this is not the case but two local Wal-Marts say they will only be carrying hand gun and shot gun ammo and will no longer be selling any rifle calibers.

    Really?

I hope this is not some new corporate policy that's going to close off another ammo source.

Are you kidding me? That is amazingly odd and doesn't seem to make any sense. Rifle ammo is a big seller and profitable why would Walmart give that up since they're all about profit?

I asked during the panic at our local WM. The manager said she had not heard anything about that. I was in Sunday and they had the rifle case restocked including ARs and ammo on the shelves altho still a 3 box per "visit" rule

I highly doubt there is anything to this.

When you say that your Wal-Marts are saying that...you are referring to specific and direct statements by management, correct?

Assist store manger and the Hardlines manger for two different stores told me this when I inquired why I have not seen 5.56 and .223 for several scheduled S/G stockings.

Maybe its a local thing but today neither had any rifle calibers once again.

I would call corporate and ask, citing the particular store number you're concerned about, before adding this to the errornet.

I have found Walmart personnel, including store managers and assistants, to be some of the least reliable people to ask about WM plans and policies. Especially on this subject matter.

I second that. Walmart employees by and large are either unreliable or low end thinking mammals. Saw a Colt 6920 without handguards in case. Walmart gun guy when I asked where they were he said this is how "us operators" in the teams ran our rifles. Plus it just looks cool. Seriously! Some people should be drowned at birth.

I seem to recall that Wal-Mart stores stocking firearms and ammo was done at the discretion of the general manager, perhaps those individual stores have made the decision?

Last week or the week before a metropolitan Wal-Mart near me filled up on Federal XM193, and I got my 3 pack limit... and they were gone before I could get more.

I can't imagine that WM would give their general managers such broad discretion. Weird.

    Patriot,

Could this be a Philly thing? I ask this in the most benign manner (I'm from PA). I could see some wing nut regional manager trying to push an agenda based on demographics or political pressure. Thoughts?

No Wal-Mart stores inside the boundaries of Philadelphia sell any kind of ammunition, it been like this for close to eight years now. The other two stores are not to far outside the city limits and maybe they have their own discretion to what types of ammunition they sell.
