I used 55gr Tula, Wolf, PMC Bronze, XM193 and M855. No issues and they all locked back on empty.
    Good looking rig.

Resurrecting this one since there is no single place for all the A5 stuff.

    Some recent A5 testing.

16" BCM Stainless Midlength 1/8 barrel (.076 gas port) with M16 profile Nitrided BCG (Sprinco enhanced extractor spring). A5 lower with H4 buffer and green Sprinco.

10 rounds of MEN 5.56 ammunition. 100% function. Additional 10 rounds of 77gr. handloads (Markm specials). 100% function.

11.5" SIONICS RGP barrel, LMT E-carrier with SIONICS NP3 bolt, enhanced extractor spring, AAC M4-2000 Mod 7 suppressor. A5 lower with H4 buffer and green Sprinco.

10 rounds of Magtech 62gr. 5.56 ammunition. 100% function. Additional 10 rounds of 77gr. handloads (Markm specials). 100% function.

I have the A5 system on one lower with the standard A5H2 buffer that comes with the kit. It runs fine with my Wilson Combat 18" SPR upper as well as my Colt 6920 upper. Does VLTOR have a guide on selecting buffer weights or is it just a buy and experiment deal? Also does the Springco springs improve the system? I was thinking of buying their A5 spring along with the bolt springs.

    Thanks!

KAC SR-15 MOD2 16" Upper with Vltor A5H2 and OEM rifle spring. I was a little worried at first as KAC recommends a Carbine buffer but it ran fine.

100% function with the following ammo:

    - PMC Bronze
    - AE223
    - PMC XTAC
    - XM193
    - IMI 5.56 55gr
    - IMI Razor 5.56 77gr
    - BH 223 70gr TSX
    - ASYM 223 77gr
    - BH 223 75gr
    - Gold Dot 223 62gr

In a likely not practical test (mostly because I did not replicate with a carbine setup) I fired multiple 3 round strings One-handed with arm extended.

All cycled fine but not all locked back on the last round. Magpul Gen3 mags.

    - PMC Bronze: No Lock
    - PMC XTAC: ~50%
    - AE223: ~50%
    - IMI Razor 5.56 77gr: OK
    - ASYM 223 77gr: OK
    - Gold Dot 223 62gr: OK

Maybe a moving mass issue? Regardless I am perfectly happy with the A5 system in this setup!

    Dennis.

doesn't sound like it ran fine at all if it isn't locking open

As explained, that second set of tests was firing one handed with the rifle hanging in midair to induce malfunctions.

    Unscientific, but just passing on...

Pretty much so, the carbine action system would have been better served if it was a reduced length rifle action system to begin with.

The 3 loads that didnt lock back 100% are most likely less hot than the three that did. When you get to the "edge" of smoothness/reliability, ammo plays a big part.
