That's true. That's when you just chaulk it up to a bad day and move on to a secondary.

My point is still valid. Irons are worth their weight on a gun.

That being said, a red dot can also enhance a shooters abilities and add to speed.

Not like those are bullet proof...

If you are going to have it on your gun, you should know how to use it.
While I certainly don't believe that one needs to learn irons first, they do need to be learned.

There are times that an RDS will out-perform irons, and those circumstances are generally those that are experienced during an actual gunfight. That being said, the guy with irons that has spent 50,000 rounds in purposeful/relevant practice/training will out-perform the guy that has an RDS with 500 rounds of practice.

    Who runs Irons only?

FrankW... John was using your rifle and hitting the small steel popper out to 275 yds with ease. I was impressed since I suck donkey balls. The 4 MOA dot on my T-1 was obscuring the poppers and I think the irons would have been easier.

Turn the brightness down and don't cover things up with the dot, use the edge of the dot.

So here is my question... for more advanced shooting classes, what, other than speed to acquire my sight alignment/sight picture, will I be having?

I just want to get a feel for how much I need to get an optic for the back up rifle.
I have some kind of red dot or variation of on the rifles but they all have iron backups.

    Here's an interesting read

Then why is it so easy when playing battlefield 3?
