A few questions for those who extensively used MK14 rails (especially 13"):
- what's your overall impressions of it?
- what do you like/dislike about it?
- would you buy it again for the same rifle or a new one or would you choose something different like MK8 or another brand DD/Centurion/BCM/etc.?
- does the huge slab of aluminum under the barrel nut gets in a way of anything? Both from the handling perspective and a technical standpoint.
- are built-in QD sockets rotation limited?
- are you concerned with the durability of QD sockets being aluminum for hard use?
- since there are went holes in the top rail do you experience any mirage coming off a barrel or a gas tube during hard use? I've experienced that with one rail that had MLOK cuts in the top rail even during light use on a hot day. MK14 has less vent holes - not sure if it would also exhibit the same behavior.
- how is it generally handling the heat in your opinion?
- is barrel nut aluminum or steel? I couldn't find any information related to this. If I recall correct MK8/4 is aluminum.
Thank you,
- what's your overall impressions of it?
I like it.
- what do you like/dislike about it?
Slim. Durable. No dislikes.
- would you buy it again for the same rifle or a new one or would you choose something different like MK8 or another brand DD/Centurion/BCM/etc.?
I would buy again. I prefer it over the Mk8.
- does the huge slab of aluminum under the barrel nut gets in a way of anything? Both from the handling perspective and a technical standpoint.
Not for me.
- are built-in QD sockets rotation limited?
No. The top picatinny stops the rotation.
- are you concerned with the durability of QD sockets being aluminum for hard use?
Yes. I generally use a QD mount at the muzzle end.
- since there are went holes in the top rail do you experience any mirage coming off a barrel or a gas tube during hard use? Never noticed it.
- how is it generally handling the heat in your opinion?
No issues. I have Magpul covers on it.
- is barrel nut aluminum or steel? I couldn't find any information related to this. If I recall correct MK8/4 is aluminum.
I'm pretty sure aluminum.
