    I have just seen the problem Failure to Stop just mentioned. Battle Grip on LMT Defender last night stiffened up the safety noticeably. Not too much to be unuseable.

    Is there any risk to excessive wear on the safety engagement parts? If not it's not all that much of a problem.

    [see? before I posted the question, I did a search. Is this better to resurrect such and old thread?}

    I have a brand new LMT selector I will sell you if you are interested. Just shoot me a PM. I'll give you a good deal on it.
    Secondly, the above statement makes no sense to me.

    IF the MIAD detent spring hole is more SHALLOW than a standard A2 grip, then this would put MORE TENSION on the spring, which is usually a good thing, and makes for a more crisp selector lockup.
    My guess is that your spring that you "pulled apart" is JUNK, and you ruined it.
    NEVER EVER EVER pull apart, or "spread" the detent spring.
    In fact, never ever mess with the detent spring at all, UNLESS you are shortening it (and FYI, shortening a detent spring only applies to those who have a specific need to shorten the spring. I personally have tapped the detent spring hole, and installed a setscrew, thus omitting the need for the MIAD to support the spring. This is only needed in some AR10's, and the KAC IWS E3 rifles with the relocated detent).
    ANYHOW, back to your issue. NEVER "pull apart" or "spread" the detent spring. This results in a ruined spring, and this is most likely your problem.
    As others have stated, I'd go ahead and try another selector as well.
    Any AR owner should have extra springs and even an extra selector or two lying around. Most of us have all sorts of extra lower receiver parts in our shops, and eventually you should too...
