Yeah... I mean... look at how far the bullet has to come up to match the height of the sight over the bore in just 25... continue that relatively straight line to 50 and it's way high.

Yup, 50yd zero allows the trajectory to flatten out more than 25, 75 more than 50, and so on.
For more reasons than just that, I find the 100 yd zero to be about optimal for my usues. Defoor has written up a few things on it as has F2S in his excellent zeroing explanation thread.
I have to disagree with a specialized short distance zero. Main reason why is in my first post in response to Jax.
Without getting into all the possible "real world" applications that we could dream up, I'll just say that I like simple. The simpler that I can keep something and easier it is to remember, the better. If I can have the same holds from my RDS equipped gun to my magnified/MRDS equipped gun (on both optics) and not have to account for holdovers AND unders, then that's a win win for me. YMMV.
